Whatís a reasonable time to view apartments

Hi
I am possibly being a bit draft but is it normal to only have viewings in the middle of the day in the work week and not on Saturdays or before/after work hours?? Iím a bit stuck as finding it hard to ask for time out of work when I only just moved here!
Thanks :)

Perfectly normal. Your employer should also be aware of this and sympathetic.

It is also normal to do it in the evenings. People who view the house often also don't like taking hours of from work. Before work I myself have not seen yet.

You can always ask.

If you are buying just say what you want.
I remember visiting an apartment in Sydney on Saturday at 10PM to check the noise. we discover later the noisy day was not Saturday but Sunday :D

Perhaps in Zurich. In the lac leman area it is unheard of. There is such a shortage of apartments for rent normal market conditions simply donít apply.

Unless you are renting directly from the owner that is.

In Zurich, a viewing can be any time of the day. Most usual are clustered around midday (broadly 11h to 14h) and late afternoons (broadly 16h to 20h), but others are at any time during working hours. Not before then.

I agree, though, that since employers know that one has to view, view, view, to finally find a place to rent, they are often understanding and allow the employee to shift their working hours, to manage it all.

If the apartment is shown by an agent or property management they are doing their job. And they do their job the same time most other people do. ;)

You are really saying that ZŁrich has no issues with demand being higher than offerings?

So with "There is such a shortage of apartments" you referred to ZŁrich?

I find that weird, I would say in a market where there are enough objects (or even to many) landlords would make it as convenient as possible for people to view houses. And in a market where there are not enough objects there is no reason for people to do overtime to allow viewings.

Some viewings might be in the evening when they are held by the tenant who is looking for a follow-on tenant, rather than organised by the landlord or the agent.

Yes, Edwin, I think that your logic is right. In the top luxury segment of accommodation, in which, so I was recently told, there has consistently been a greater supply of accommodation than there is demand by tenants, for several years, an owner, or more likely an agent, will be willing to make an individual viewing possible at just about any time the tenant specifies, if there's a hope of getting a contract signed.
