Civil liability insurance RC- confused!

Hi there

Just moved to Geneva and I have a viewing for an apartment. I have been asked to bring my policy for civil liability insurance (RC).

I’m a bit confused about how to get this insurance as I do not currently have an address to which the insurance could relate to i.e. I am staying in a hotel

Any suggestions?

Also any recommendations for insurance companies?

Thanks!

Not sure if this will help, but find this request unusual. Is this a normal Regie who is asking? I was asked only to submit a proof of insurance at the time of signing the lease. For regular apartment viewing, it is only three pay slips + non-poursuite certificate that matter.

I am with LaMobilliere if this helps, but am sure is more less the same like all others.

!
Personal liability insurance is foremost tied to a person and not an address. But it might cover all people living in the same household. A CHF 5 Million coverage costs less than CHF 100/year. Talk with an agent at an "agences générale" of your favorite company.

PS: Also with LaMobilliere. Others are Zurich, AXA, Vaudoise, Baloise, Allianz, Elvia, Helvetia, Generalli

Thanks for clarifying it’s tied to the person- that really helps me understand !

Re: Civil liability insurance RC- confused!

I've been asked for this before when renting the house. It is so they know if you damage something, they can sue you and get the money.

Re: Civil liability insurance RC- confused!

I've never been asked to actually show my RC insurance details by any regie, before, during or after the process..

I believe it's pretty common in GE and probably elsewhere for tenants advertising to to say "bring a dossier" with .. Payslips, passports, work contracts, references, non poursuits, bank statements .. etc etc..

Most of this is not necessary, it's usually because the sitting tenant is desperate to find a solvable person to get them out of their lease. They want people to come fully prepared with everything.

Mileage will vary but personally, last move in July, I sat in the office of the regie and answered some questions - what permit I have, annual salary, kids, no pets, Done.. The only bit they asked me to hand over was the non-poursuit certificate.

Ouch!!
I'm somewhere around 120 for RC and 350 for house contents.

Maybe you have combined?

Maybe its not only liability but also content insurance for risks not covered by the ECA Vaud? Higher coverage ?

Lol. Exactly. I did have a toilet cover broken, btw. We stepped on it far too often, hanging little laundry above the tub. Stupid us! Such exotic accidents!

I suppose you could argue to the ECA that it was thunderstruck.

Hahahaha, my ass is not that big!

I am sure it will be, soon enough. Good for the insurance....to not count on it?! So sweet.
