an unsatisfied exp with moving company

It is the first time we moving apartment here, so we made an appointment with a moving company. We agreed upon the quotation: charged by hour with a maximum of 850 CHF.
On the morning, three workers come to our home, but after the initial 10 minutes of working, there are only one worker who was still working on dissembling. I was confused (and a little angry) so I just join them to work together. It worked. The other two started to work. But when I took a rest, they disappear again. So after waiting for 20 minutes, I found them eating breakfast outside in their truck. Fine, breakfast is essential and human right. But when they finished their breakfast, there came a neighbour ( an old lady) asking them for help on moving something heavy inside her garden. I told my neighbour (nicely) that they were still helping me with moving. So far so good.
When the workers finished their food, they started work again. It took 2 hours for 1 bed, 1 wardrobe (IKEA 3 door), 1 writing table and a few IKEA folding chairs. I thought, fine, at least we will finish within 2.5 hours because the new apartment is just 5 minutes away. But it turned out that I was too naive.
When they reached the new apartment, 2 out of 3 workers suddenly disappear. I did not know where they went because I did not go with their truck. And the most ridiculous part is that, the remaining 1 worker started to dissemble the small writing table, which he did not dissemble (because it was small they simply carried by hands all they way). It took him a while to dissemble and assemble the table, until the other 2 workers returned (my wife saw them smoking and making phone call outside and she thought the moving must be over so did not asked them). Now it has been 3.5 hours AND PTL it finally comes to the end and charged us 775 CHF even though the whole room was still a mess and they refuse to lend a hand to move it because "time is up". Fine, I gave them 800 CHF and they left. I was too angry to realise they did not give me the change back.
When I called back the phone number for appointment, the gentleman asked me to talk to the guy directly - what? - PTL we made ourselves understood with the worker who took the money and he admitted he took it "but mistaken it as tip". tip? for procrastination or for the phone call or for helping other people (for free or charged i dont know)? Anyway it has been a really unsatisfied experience.
If you are looking for a moving company in Basel, stay away from this company (hint: flying bird/dragon holding Basel's logo) and its phone end with 3535. Of course if you speak good German and prepared to confront or even argue back the time wasted.

Should have read the riot act immediately, phoned the boss and complained and certainly not paid for the service

That's unacceptable! Thanks for warning! I think it's important especially for foreigners looking for moving services - the way they treated you is appaling.

The company must have some kind of complaint policy and I think you should familiarize yourself with it as fast as possible since they might have some deadlines. Of course there is a risk, the owner is as disrespectful as his workers but maybe he was not aware of his employees behaviour and will act responsably.

Any moving company is only as good as their last move !

You need to rule them with a rod oif iron, no tolerance and keep them not only in sight but well under control.

Makle sure the boss guy knows your position.

Ya, how I hope I had done so... I kept smiling and did not make any complaint may be because it was totally beyond my experience I guess... next time I will be bolder. BTW The boss came to our new apartment at the 2nd hour, looking around and left. Then his people procrastinating 0.5 more hours. I don't know what's his purpose of being there - to ensure his people wasting enough time..

You think they really car if they treat you as they did ?

Chalk it up to experience and move on, you'll get nothing and nothing will happen anyway.

While your phrasing is a bit archaic - that's what one has to do.

I can not reenact how OP had 2/3 of the crew disappear and several times even without asking them what they're up to. Let someone disassemble a furniture at the point of arrival (unless the staircase at the new place is tiny) without calling him out on it. Pay the guys cash - then calls a person who was not even there and at this point can't influence anything anymore, then goes on an internet forum they discovered three weeks before- the one definite place that can't do anything about it - to complain.

All in all it seems it was a crap crew but OP didn't seem to mind so they saw no reason to do better.

You guys sure OP doesn't want to sell the furniture that don't fit in the new place?

The neighbour made me giggle though. Cheeky old lady.

Best thing to do is post a review. Don't worry if it's in English... most people can understand the gist of what you're saying.
