How clean should the final clean be?

Iím soon moving from Zurich to Luzern and I try to decide if I want to clean the old apartment (3.5 room) myself or not. How clean should it be and is it possible to do this yourself or do you need professional equipment?
I have a few weeks of free time between my current and new job, so time is not a limitation.

Thanks a lot!

Re: How clean should the final clean be?

We've done it ourselves a few times and never had a problem. It's pretty straightforward but be prepared for a bit of elbow grease.

Don't take this the wrong way but after having read what others on here have said about the subject, if you have never cleaned the oven, or hob extract filters whilst living in your apartment then you probably don't have the mindset to do the cleaning to the standard required - or more to the point, to know when you have reached that standard.

Clean enough to lick the floor, or any other surface.

In answer to both your questions: there is no 'how' in it. Everything needs to properly cleaned.

Re: How clean should the final clean be?

Like the Queen of the Netherlands comes to a visit and Mr. Monk is your landlord. Expect that Mr. Monk comes with a dentist mirror, a microscope, and a dark light. Oh, and the landlord might very likely come with a dentist mirror and some extra light.

You will have to clean every nook, corner, surface, and compartment you can think of and some more. Do all the minor repairs which you have not done, de-clog the drain, and descale all fittings, nozzles, and shower heads.

Do not forget the cave, the parking place, the mail box, the blinds, the door bell, the electrical outlets, and all the surface you do not see because they are too high up, behind or bellow something.

If you think it is dirty, it is dirty and it must be cleaned. If you think it does not look it is brand new, fresh from the factory, it must be cleaned.

Make a list and a plan what has do be done and also in what order (otherwise you will clean twice). Maybe practice with your bathroom and try to make it spotless clean right know to get a feel how much work it can be. Also the oven can be quite a task and might need some time.

Have some cleaning utensils ready at hand over time to clean stuff on the spot.

Here some maybe helpful lists (in German):

Not quite good enough. Ask your mother-in-law to assist.

Remember I said everything.... the cellar, the parking place..... really everything you have ever touched in the house.....

No offence to your mother.... but you inherited your cleaning skills from her... better the mother-in-law or best of all an unrelated Swiss housewife.

Re: How clean should the final clean be?

How could the landlord or representative of the agency see the surface that is high up if there is no single chair left? Or do they come with the ladder sometimes?

I remember how the lady from the agency noticed the spider web on the ceiling and the lady from the cleaning company had to jump and swing he cloth trying to remove the web. It looked funny.

Re: How clean should the final clean be?

It depends on your own standard how hard it will be.
This is the list I came up with yesterday.

If you do those things on regular basis anyway you won't need to scrub but simply wipe.
Still, windows and specially those delicate electric powered shutters are still a pain in the neck to do.

Re: How clean should the final clean be?

Think clean then think anally clean and you'll be going the right way.

Squeaky clean, as it was when you moved in.
