Cheap moving company

Hello,
This has probably been asked before, but I am not good with the search on this forum.

Does anyone know cheap movers?

My girlfriend and I are looking for a cheap moving company, from IKEA to langnau. We just got an apartment, and wish to move in as fast as possible to be closer to my work.

Regards,
Emil

Re: Cheap moving company

Well, you could do it yourself - they have hire vans. They also offer a moving service and assembly as well.

Re: Cheap moving company

Or you could join mobility, a car-hire company which allows you to hire a vehicle on an hourly basis. Go by public transport to Ikea, choose your items. Book a mobility car somewhere near Ikea. Drive to your place, unload the furniture, return the car, and take public transport home again.

Or contact the user confloozed, who sometimes takes on this kind of work.
https://www.englishforum.ch/members/...onfloozed.html

Or google: "englishforum" "man with a van".

Re: Cheap moving company

Great thanks. The issue is that none of us has a drivers license yet, and IKEA doesnt deliver that much to Langnau.

There is a cap on Ikea's delivery charges - I think it's CHF 199 nationwide (but check) and as long as you are willing to pay that, they will deliver on demand. Just make sure everything you need is in one delivery and that's probably your cheapest option. I had them deliver 137 packages of a kitchen, 4 packages of a sofa bed and some other items of furniture down here to Laax for CHF 199.

Re: Cheap moving company

The word cheap is sickening, either you need help for a service, and pay the price the person is asking for, or leave it. It's disrespectful for the person performing the job.

Come on, not everyone earns pots of money and OP for sure wanted just to avoid paying too much.

Steady on. You can pay through the nose for a bells-and-whistles service or you can ask for recommendations for a no-frills, no nonsense tip.

Everyone knew what the OP meant by ‘cheap’ and I didn’t get the feeling he was using it in a disrespectful way.

Re: Cheap moving company

Have you actually asked in the store, the website indeed might differ every now and then. We went there filled in the list and used their shopping service in combination with delivery, everything that is in the store can be done that way.

Else the cheapest alternative would be to find somebody in your neighbourhood through EF or Facebook who also needs stuff. You pay for the truck, they drive and bring it back.

Best other Alternative would be "man with a van" and also be there to help load and unloading.

Or you can ask for "good value", or define the service level you want or can afford. I'm sure many service providers on here would attest that far too many people ask for "cheap" meaning a) they expect a 5-star service for beer money and b) have no idea of the value of the service being provided (and haven't thought what it is worth to them)

Yes, you're right, non-native speakers are more likely to convey disrespect unintentionally from simply being unaware of the nuances of particular words, but there are surely a lot of people on here whose hackles are immediately raised by request for quotes asking for "cheap" or "your best price". It's often a red flag that the prospective client is going to be difficult because there is a mismatch between their expectations and what they can afford or are willing to pay (which are very often far from the same thing)

Re: Cheap moving company

As a child, I was told to choose from cheap, fast or good quality.

But that I could only choose two at the same time.
