Re: skirting boards: resolve this argument

When we had our walls painted it never occurred to me to ask to have the skirting boards painted nor did the painter deem it necessary. I think they look fine and attached a picture to give you an idea how they turned out.

Well, I wanted him to be right as it would be a huge time-saver as you say (at least until any damage requiring re-painting).

However, is yours actually painted? The ones I have seen have what appears to be a white paper-like layer on top of the MDF(?) base rather than actual paint.
Yes. You can get foil ones but mine are white - painted solid pine.

Here's the Hornbach link. 4 CHF a metre is a pretty good deal.

Strangely, in reality, the finish looks much better in reality than it does on the website.

A major plus was that all pieces were straight and and true.

I bought some wood for some shelving fascia and had to select carefully as well over the half the stock was warped.

well no. that's a different question from the one i was asking
Okay, you're right.
The actual question was:
<<So, I wanted to turn to EF wisdom to resolve this: are they skirting boards with a matt white finish supposed to be used as-is or are they supposed to be painted? >>

And a few hints in your question make me feel, I know the answer. Should I psh the button or not .... hmmm ..... I think I will and win.

Oh, there is a PS: In order to paint something with a matt finish, you will have to sand them off first. Enjoy.

as yes. i see there is a kind which has a vinyl foil over it. i guess this must have been what it was. and according to this:

https://www.unique-wholesale.co.uk/f...d-architraves/

"MDF core wrapped in a wood effect vinyl foil
Wipeable and fully finished no need to prime or paint"

i agree that matching the floor is the standard in switzerland. but i just don't like that look.
If they are wood/floor color, it optically reduces the room. If they are white/wall color, the place will seem bigger.
