Oh? Well, as I hadn't heard the term "Bliss Ninnies" before, I went to look it up. It's certainly a concept I've never had attibuted to me before, at least not in Real Life.
Take care, next you will be called a Gutmensch

I hadn't heard either of those terms, either, as descriptors of a person, so I looked them up, too.

Re: I understand rules are rules but...

Yes, I'd also heard the term Pollyanna (and that, by the way, is a bitter-sweet tale for a little child to read or watch the movie). I grew up with an uberpollyanna and so, perhaps by contrast, I would never have been described as a Pollyanna. Interesting, what words can do. I wonder what the opposite(s) of a bliss ninny, a gutmensch, a Pestalozzi and a Pollyanna are.

Re: I understand rules are rules but...

1300 sfr for a one roomer in basel ??
How big is the flat, does it comes with furniture ?
Is there floor heating, washing machine, dryer to justify that rent ?

I lived in basel , had 1.5 rooms , 40sqm for 970 sfr.
The flat had nothing special, the washing machine/dryer was in the basement.

The last flat i had in zurich was also 1.5 rooms, 40 sqm with floor heating, minergie standard, built in washing machine/dryer inside the flat.
Fiber connection was in the flat as well. The rent was 1470 sfr.

Re: I understand rules are rules but...

My husband rented a 1.5 room furnished studio apartment in Kleinbasel from Jan 2015 - April 2016, 32 m sq. It cost him about 1500 chf a month. It was cleverly done as it was divided into different zones, the bathroom was in the hall and had a bath/over bath shower. The galley kitchen had excellent cooking facilities.

Re: I understand rules are rules but...

From my experience, the taxes in basel are a disgrace, so i would not pay so much money for renting a flat.
Basel Stadt has not the status of zurich , the renting market is not that competitive as in zurich, so the landlord can't justify such high prices.

I can relate to that. But you'd be surprised how similar to your mom (I assume) you can be.

(*the latter bolded part made me smile, we all think we're different from our parents)

What's the opposite? I don't have a scientific definition for the moment. I assume it's the nasty, vile type of a person, who thrives putting others down.
I prefer the Pollyanna type any time.

Re: I understand rules are rules but...

Yeah, greenmount, that did make me think. Oh, and yes, how hard I have worked to distinguish myself from the negative aspects of my mother's behaviour (though she also did help me in some ways). It wasn't she who was the uberpolyanna, though.

As to putting others down... I simply don't see the point of it.

@doropfiz
Well, nobody is perfect and the mother-daughter relation is not always easy. I'm grateful for my mom, though I do believe she could have used a bit of selfishness...at least from time to time.

Me neither. No way. I didn't grow up with mean people and can't understand this mentality.

"Basel Stadt has not the status of zurich , the renting market is not that competitive as in zurich, so the landlord can't justify such high prices."

Not sure I agree with that, when we were looking early in 2018 there were very little 3 room properties around the 90m2 mark, we had a budget of 2.5k CHF per month. People were practically fighting for anything that size that was up for grabs in decent districts and we lost out on 2 before we found our current one, which luckily for us is was new build. We were surprised to get it tbh. We were originally after St Alban / Gellert but nothing was coming up. Settled on Breite which is between the 2, friendly and fine for us. Small local shops but Birsfelden BL is only a few minutes walk.

There does seem to be quite a lot in Baselstadt at the moment that is either studio apartments or 3 rooms, which makes me think a lot of ex-pats might be moving on.
