Best way to find a new apartment

Hi guys,

I hope you are all well and safe.

I want to get a bigger apartment in Basel. I see a lot of bigger ones which are cheaper then what I am currently paying for.

I canít actually write because I suffer with a disability and a little bit of brain damage.

My friend in Basel was telling me they look at your hand writing on the form and judge it.

How can I apply for houses when I donít understand the forms or have the ability to write?

Thank you again.

Re: Best way to find a new apartment

Could you have someone help translate the forms for you and also fill them out for you, in their own handwriting? I think it's a bit silly for anyone to judge someone's character or intellect according to their handwriting. For one thing, studies have shown that highly intelligent people often have messy handwriting.

Re: Best way to find a new apartment

Here you go!
https://www.ig-wohnen.ch/
As far as I can tell, this is a non-profit organisation. I don't think they charge a fee, but you'd have to check that directly with them.

Approximate translation, from their website:
A secure home opens doors to a new beginning
We know that unexpected and often unintentional changes can lead to exceptional situations in a person's life.
IG Wohnen supports people in difficult situations when looking for an apartment and, through cooperation with property administrations and private landlords, arranges stable tenancies.

Our preliminary clarifications take into account the social and financial backgrounds of our clients. We compensate for the risk of tenant relationships.
and...

During the public consultation you will receive:
  • Tips for finding an apartment
  • Assistance with the search for advertisements
  • Support in finding a new tenant
  • Help with filling out registration forms
  • Support in writing termination letters or other correspondence with landlords or property managers
  • Advice on neighborhood problems
  • Instructions on how to deal with rent debts
  • Information about social institutions and other organizations with tenancy law problems.

They are currently closed due to Corona, but are generally available on
Monday to Friday 9:00-12:00 by phone 061 271 06 16
or by mail sekretariat@ig-wohnen.ch

It seems to me that what need, with regard to accommodation, is place where you pay much less rent, irrespective of whether it is larger or smaller.
