Best resources for finding an apartment in Geneva?

Hi there!

Looking for any tips and resources you'd recommend to find an apartment to rent in Geneva. Any facebook groups you'd recommend?

My partner and I are looking for a small 2-2.5 piece for CHF800-1600.

Would you recommend a broker?

Thanks a bunch!

I think that price range will be tough to find.

Just found our new apartment on Flatfox. Really donít know what the value add of using a broker is. I think being quick is the most important in a tight market.

Facebook? Weird place to look for property I'd say.

For private rentals, i.e. not through an agency

Here is the Facebook page for rentals in Lausanne "LAUSANNE ŗ louer - bouche ŗ oreille"

There is probably something similar for Geneva. Be sure to search on Facebook in both EN and FR.

Re: Best resources for finding an apartment in Geneva?

I came to Switzerland in the late 90s. The employer at that time had offered two options. 1. paying for one month's stay in a furnished accommodation while I would look for my permanent accommodation myself, 2. paying for a broker.

I naively chose the 2nd and, with the benefit of hindsight, regretted it very much as I started looking for an appartment myself. I applied through the websites, newspaper ads etc and received more than 35 rejections. Eventually what/who helped me was a local friend.

In early 2000s I moved to the Suisse Romandie, and having learnt my lesson, chose to go thru the broker offered by the employer. It worked perfectly. So:
1. Use a broker if you can, although it would entail a substantial cost
2. Seek help from local Swiss friends
3. Don't only depend upon the major websites. Also try and look for ads in local village newspapers, websites, notice boards in Coop, Migros, malls etc

I naively chose the FIRST, repeat the FIRST option, thinking I will save on a month's rent. Never knew then that looking for an apartment on my own would be next to impossible!!

I cant see the Edit button. Probably too late for that.
