| | Best place to live outside of Zurich - while working in Zurich
Hello,
I am looking for a place very quiet (I am very sensitive to noise), and also with a garden (not a Must have but that would be really nice) and I was thinking the best option for me would be to find a place that is not too far fron Zurich HB (my work is close to the station) in term of time of transport, but nature close. Maybe even and entire house could be the best solution (I have found some looking on Immomapper). I have a budget around 1600 CHF max.
In which area do you think I should look at ?
Thanks |

if you use Public transport everything works, depending on what type of communte and how long u want to commute.
Say u can go Birmensdorf, Baden or Regensdorf if you like green and quiet places. There are lots of option if u can accept a 15 to 20 min train ride to the citty, also look at the taxation level of each gemeinde.

I find Adliswil to be nice, and affordable, with a regular train to the HB. The trip takes 16 minutes from station to station, and in peak hours (morning and afternoon to and from work) there is a train every ten minutes.
I think, from something on the Stadt Adliswil website I saw a while back, the city is about 70% forested/nature areas - including Felsenegg, which gives you a nice walk along the ridge into town via Uetliberg if you like long walks.

Actually I already saw several houses for 1600 - 1700, a bit more far from HB (40 mns)

you can also look at Gattikon / Horgenberg / Hirzel / Schönenberg. These are the "uphill towns" along the silver coast. The commute is a bit longer than from the ones at the lake so they are cheaper. I think all of them merged now with the towns along the lake (Thalwil / Horgen/ Wädenswil) but the rents are still cheaper. But if you are using public transport the commute is longer. 40 Minutes should work.

Could be scams...
And 40 minutes can easily become 1.5 hours if the public transport connection fails or in the winter snow...

Look just outside canton Zurich... in Aargau for example, just over the border.
I'm 25-30 mins by car from my office, and about 35 by public transport to HB... Houses here are MUCH cheaper.
People have a dislike for Aargau in Switzerland (stereotype of bad driving amongst other things), as well as saying taxes are much higher.
While taxes are higher than ZH, I found that my health insurance went down when I moved, by more than my tax difference.... Similarly my car insurance went down, but not substantially.

Yes, Lenzburg and Baden looks both like the perfect compromise |

Look around Stettbach | | | | |
My first criteria is about having a quiet place. Isn't Stettbach close from Zurich airport ?

Can't recommend stettbach, there is a lot of high rise construction ongoing, especially in the area of the samsung hall.
The starting planes make their turn around Glattbrugg/Opfikon/End of Seebach.

The little villages around mellingen heitersberg station are fab! Villages such as mellingen, Rutihof, Fislisbach and neiderrohrdorf have in you in central Zürich in 30 mins and are very quiet and peaceful with lovely family run shops and restaurants x
