But it's not down to the neighbours to try to help her. I with most others, report to the landlord, I'm sure there's been other complaints. And then it's down to the landlord to either move her on or seek help for her.

In the meantime, just try to ignore her, that's the only way to de-escalate.

And my suggestion was to contact Livit

Besides being a miserable ascerbic old git, I assume you have the ability to use the scroll function and have mastered basic reading comprehension and understand the meaning of perhaps and who knows. If not, my original post below

Perhaps it is the onset of dementia or some kind of nervous breakdown. Who knows, but if her behaviour is so far beyond what would be considered normal then you should indeed report it to Livit for the lady's welfare.
Are you really this wilfuly ignorant? You mentioned dementia first and then followed it up by saying: "having watched a parent die of dementia", so you created this angle and then followed up with your own story and thus did not simply "suggest" it in passing, but forced it into the conversation for us all to see and address. Get a grip, man.

Why? Are they specialists in mental health?

They manage the building according to OP so, as did many others, I advised contacting them to report the behaviour and it is then up to them to take whatever action they deemed most appropriate

Please stay on topic people, this is not about anybody but the OP. Mental illness, dementia or not, nobody deserves to be harassed and video taped without consent in their own home.

Just contact your landlord OP (in the most diplomatic way possible for best effect) and good luck!

You find mental illness fodder for comedy while I, having had a parent who suffered from a form of mental illness, find it reprehensible that people use such illnesses to make themselve appear cool

My God, stop! We have all been touched by mental illness and some have even suffered from it themselves. Please take your bickering elsewhere. Peace people, these are tough times!

Re: Creepy neighbour upstairs... how to de-escalate with Crazy Karen?

Best of luck OP - I can only echo the advice of letting the landlords know of the predicament, a) potentially for the welfare of the lady above and b) just in case she does escalate somehow.

Also agree with other posters that a more sympathetic approach to her, rather than the descriptions we've seen so far, would be beneficial to the situation and your own self-esteem.

Whenever I read things like this I have to smile and think: "cute!"
I see your mad person and raise you my crazy former landlady.
The mad bat of Basel.

Quote:
the mad landlady's mind seems to be deteriorating big time, now she is convinced that the house was a Nazi jail during the war and that the gas mains exploded and that she was forced to buy a electric heater for 2000 Franks because amnesty international told her to get one, but this was a war crime and the Swiss secret service know about it and I should not be surprised if the men in black come to me during the night.
Or.
The time she was convinced that the Turkish rapist was climbing up the drain of her sixth floor flat and was having is way with her at least once a week.
Or.
When she was abducted by Swiss astronauts and taken to the Swiss space station with a rocket fired from the university in Zürich.
Or.
When the ghosts had taken over and were forcing her to dance in a ripped nighty at two in the morning.
Or.
Wanted to call an exorcist to purge the demons living in my NetGear switch.
Or.
Smacking her lips and looking at me in my motorbike rags like I was lunch.
(I jammed the door with a chair that day)

Ah the memories.

Re: Creepy neighbour upstairs... how to de-escalate with Crazy Karen?

I don't see such a big deal there. Your upstairs neighbour makes noises sometimes in the middle of the night. And one day she filmed your tomatoes.

I would let it go. You have no proof that she was recording...as unlikely it as it may be, she might have been Skypeing with family. Who knows?

Another newbie who got abused to the point of leaving. Sad really, but in no way unexpected.

Abused? Hardly! He was regularly confrontational on this forum. Maybe there is more history, but from what I witnessed, he can dish it out quite easily.

Seems he relived a traumatic experience.

As the owner of a bunch of not-so-pleasant memories, I can tell that the only way out is to break the link between something normal to other humans and my own traumatic memories. Otherwise, triggered everywhere and the most unexpected time because the other won't change, and they don't have to.

Except we're not talking about gouging peoples' eyes out.

It's an internet forum where people sometimes disagree.
