Is it possible to find a flat when employed on a fixed term contract?

Is it just more difficult than on a permanent contract, or downright impossible? I have now been turned down for a number of flats and I'm a bit baffled, given that I earn a six-digit salary and I have no debts or anything else that could be a red flag. I'm employed through a temp agency on an hourly basis and I only get my contract extended for 6 months at a time, so that's the only reason I can think of? Is this normally a problem for other people?

I really want to move now, but maybe should I wait until my current contract expires and I hopefully find a job with a permanent contract again? I feel like I might be wasting my time searching right now. Many thanks for any opinions!

It depends also on what price-range you are looking at.

If you earn too much, landlords and agents will prefer to give the apartment to a lower-income renter who has a more stable, permanent lifestyle.

What area are you looking ? price range ? Single ? do you have a swiss permanent residency or passport ?

Thank you, I didn't know that! I'm single and on a B permit. You are right, I guess the B permit could be an issue too. I just want a flat suitable for a single person, maybe 40-50 m2. So far I have not found anything in my desired location in this category that was outside my price range, so that's not the main issue.

It is not impossible. One of my friends has also a fixed term contract with very high fee, and he needed only one day to find a new apartment.

Your threads on accommodation seem to me to overlap.
I have added some more links to your other thread: https://www.englishforum.ch/housing-...ties-bern.html

Good luck!
