What?! These scammers are going to set aside half of their required deposit using their own funds into their own account?? Insanity.

Ask them if you could just make the deposit 1,000 CHF, as you have just started your new job as a financial crimes investigator and haven't rebuilt your savings sufficiently yet. :-) I am guessing that will be the end of your communications with them.

That's no fun... I used to do a lot of 419 baiting years ago... need to extend this as much as possible.

Yes. Offer to pay in a rare currency and haggle about the Fx rate for awhile and who will pay the conversion fee.

Or suggest using an escrow account with a 'trusteable' 3rd party, and mention some banana republic's banks, suggesting that they appoint the manager on the bank - let them do some legwork for laughs....
