What are the big moving dates in Zurich?

Hi,
I heard recently that there are some 'big' moving dates almost every quarter when everyones contracts are ending and possibly this dates should be considered by myself as a moving date from London to Zurich.
Unfortunately I'm not sure what that dates are, so if any of you have any knowledge on this topic could you please share it?

I'm quite new to this forum and would like to ask if I should be living in Zurich in temporary flat on that dates and look for the perm flat or should I plan to move there straight from London?

Cheers

It used to be that way, yes. Now (at least in Zurich) people mostly look for a "Nachmieter", that is a person that will take over your contract as is. You can read up on that here on the English Forum.

The old moving dates (where still many people move) are:
  • end of march
  • end of June
  • end of September

Now there are often contract which allow you the move at the end of every month. Often the end of December is not possible.

I don't think Nachmieter (Next tenant?) applies to the OP, as they are moving from London and not from another area in Zürich.

OP, the irish_temptation means that if someone wants to move out of their flat ina time that is not one of the "big dates", then it's on them to find the next tenant of the flat they are leaving, or they should pay the rent until the next big date anyways.

My last two flats had only one moving (notice) date per year. This one has three (every three months excepts December).

Although I know some people who have managed to reserve/rent their apartment remotely I'd say it is a rare case. Some application forms even require you to check the box saying 'I have visited the apartment and I find it suitable'.
A more typical way is to book the so called 'business apartment' for some months and then start looking for a permanent staying place.

Re: What are the big moving dates in Zurich?

Is it possible to book business apartment if we are family of 2 +3? The younges one is month old... Or it will be better to move separately one adult to sort it out and then the rest of the family? I'm personally bit affraid of moving in stages due to uncertain time with covid

You will find furnished business apartments in different sizes to accommodate your family while you find a permanent one. The advantage in having a business apartment on your arrival is that, in general, the renting can be extended monthly and you have time and less stress to find a good location to live. Finding a house/apartment can take sometime depending on where you want to rent in Zurich.
