Plastering and plasterers

I need to have some remedial work done to my house, mainly external works, just wonder if anyone has experience of plasterers in this country? Costs? workmanship etc?

As usual, our house, athough only 7 years old has the hideous textured plaster ( seems the Swiss like it or are incapable of producing smooth finishes).

I am considering going to the UK and doing a plasterers intro course to do this work myself, but want to read about others experiences first.

Re: Plastering and plasterers

I've seen some absolutely appalling plastering here. I think the plasterers don't like doing a smooth finish - and charge a lot more accordingly - because it is incredibly difficult to achieve a perfect finish.

And that's the problem, a less than perfect finish with smooth plaster is very unforgiving as it's clear what's wrong when any light- especially sunlight reflects off the surface.

The rough finishes here reflect light in all directions so imperfections are difficult to see.

The worse plastering I saw on a recent new-build had a plastered ceiling droop from one side to another ending up about 3cm lower on one side of the room than the other.

I've done the rough effect finish over plasterboard and it was pretty easy (I had to match the rest of the room).
I know people who will tackle any DIY job but will still get the experts in for the plastering as it does take a lot of practice.

I dont' have any personal recommendations here.

I've used this company twice:

https://www.bennesch.ch

Very happy with the results, price was OK by Swiss standards.

Average sized bathroom all four walls plastered and skimmed (after I'd removed the tiles, so it was far from a smooth base) plus plasterboard ceiling skimmed.

2000 CHF

Four walls of a kitchen skimmed to remove knobbled surface, this was a few years ago.

1000 CHF
