Re: Can I move flats

I am going to email the immobilien today and ask them for a copy of my contract to study. And will tell them that the noise is beyond anything that is remotely reasonable (the noise and vibration is incredible). Will give notice and take any losses on the chin.

Bad start to moving to a new country. Bad luck for it to start just after joining!

1) Leave the contract and face losing my 4,000+ deposit potentially. Can I do this when someone else is on the paper with me?

Bear in mind that deposit does not cover rent for the notice period! For example, if you cancel and you're in the three months notice period, you're still liable for the rent and the landlord is not going to take it from the deposit (I assume that you have Mietkautionskonto?).

You're in Zurich, right? I left my studio in Schlieren in July and I've got over 80 people visiting the apartment, while it was overpriced for the quality and location. You shouldn't have too much problem with finding someone else to take over your lease, but I guess that might depend on specifics of your contract.
