Wrong account details - Agency at fault

Hi all,

I have been sent the wrong account details by the agency for paying the 1st rent. Since the payment came from my EUR account abroad, I have incurred a loss with having it returned (fees withheld by the Swiss bank which could not credit the correct account, investigation, etc.)

They refuse to take accountability, on the grounds that "if the payment would have been originated from a Swiss bank, the losses would not have occurred".
Although it is arguably not the largest sum (2,6% of the rent), I feel it is a matter of principle as it sets the tone for our relationship with the agency for the future.

Would you press the matter further, or be inclined to drop it?

Thanks!

A SEPA transfer I guess. Where the fees came from? Your bank, the receiving Swiss bank, SEPA, or all 3 of them?

Or simply currency conversion because the exchange rate has changed.

Re: Wrong account details - Agency at fault

The agency provided the incorrect account name, with the correct IBAN (they stated the owner company, whereas the property is managed by an investment fund - different legal entities). The swiss bank received the transfer, but could not credit it to the correct account; the return was only initiated once I've raised an investigation with my bank. We are only talking about investigation fee and SWIFT return fee (SHA) for these 2.6%, no conversion occurred so no spread.

I have lived in Switzerland before, and I do love it here, hehe!
If this was an one off, I would probably write it off. But I categorically to not want to set the wrong precedent, given that it's the beginning of the relationship

Re: Wrong account details - Agency at fault

Write the agency a registered letter setting out what damages you have suffered and ask them, as it was their mistake, how they are going to compensate you. Ask for a response within 14 days.

Thatís how they doit.
