Housing issue

Dear All,

I am facing an issue with housing. I live in Lausanne, Vaud and my apartment lease expires on 15th Feb. I had to stay outside of Switzerland for an extended period and returned recently leaving little time to find a replacement. I have tried finding an apartment for the last one week but it has proved quite difficult, given the short timespan.

After having made several applications, almost all agencies tell me that they can only start the lease on 15th Feb. This leaves no space for moving and hand-over.

Anybody has any experience/advice to share?

Thank you!

Re: Housing issue

Is it just you, or a couple, a family. What size are you looking for?

Legally there is nothing you can do, I don't think. Are you a member of Asloca, the tenant's association? You will have to quickly find a removal's firm with storage facilities for a few days or more... finding a place in Lausanne is not the easiest thing to do.

Just a couple. Not a member.

I am also looking outside of Lausanne i.e. Bussigny. Found an empty apartment. However, the problem really remains to convince the agency to allow move-in before 15th. I have also offered them to start the contract early i.e. 1st Feb but they say they can only do 15th Feb.

Unless I am missing something, what's a big deal?

You will have movers come in and pack on 15th in the morning; guess it will take 3-4 hours, depending how big your place is. Meanwhile you go to a new apartment and sign the handover. Movers will then follow you.

Then in the afternoon, you organize a cleaning of the old place, seal it and organize handover with the Regie on 16th in the morning.

Not ideal, but that's how it works.
