Do real estate agencies in Switzerland act as landlords too?

I'm in New York and I have to get a letter of recommendation from my previous landlord in Switzerland as part of the apartment application. I asked my contact at my "gérance" Roland-Savary to ask the landloard to sign the letter. But my contact at Roland-Savary ended up doing this and putting his contact information. I believe he is a broker. In Switzerland, it seems tenants don't really have any contact with the landlord and rent, repairs, and complaints are handled by the real estate agencies. It's almost like real estate agents do everything for the landlord. Do you agree and do you think it makes sense that my real estate agency signed this letter of recommendation?

Do you think your future landlord will cross check against the land registry?
What do you think is more valuable?

A letter from a "Francois Hintertupflig" which rents out his one and single apartment through a property management company, or a recommendation from a reputable company which does all the administration? If somebody can really vouch for you than it is the management company.

In Switzerland a large percent of rented property is owned by large companies and pension funds. The agency handels everything, unless it is privately owned you will never deal with a landlord.

In Switzerland the owner knows nothing about you. And if they do, you do not want their recommendation

The property management is who knows whether you're desirable to have as a tenant or not.
