T+T Box in an old house and strange cable

Hi all,

Perhaps a stupid question, but I have recently bought a house, on the older side, and am having fun examining all the areas behind things, and unscrewing things on walls to see what's behind.

One of these things is a T+T box (https://i.imgur.com/yvtgi3e.png) with a socket underneath on the top floor of the house. I haven't yet taken the socket plate off, but I presume the cable under it is attached to the socket, not the T+T Tel/Radio box above it.

The cable is Cat 6, and goes down a floor into what the previous owners were using as a living space, where it is tucked into the roof space, nicely coiled up.

The previous owners had a 5G modem, the house does not currently have a fibre network connection, which I presume based on a load of Cat 6 ending up on the top floor, was where the modem was placed.

So, my questions:

1. What is the T+T Tel/Radio box? I assume it's now old and irrelevant, given more modern "standard" co-ax sockets for internet & TV?

2. What is the socket below it for, I don't recognise the pattern?

3. What was this used for? I can presume that the loose Cat 6 cable in the living space would have been to connect a computer to their house network router (the 5G modem on the top floor) but would have expected the cable to the top floor to end up in a standard network termination, not either of these strange things on the wall.

Any thoughts would be very welcome!

Cheers.

The upper socket was used for "Telefonrundspruch" https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telefonrundspruch which was AM radio over the phone line.
The lower socket is a telephone socket. Internet might also have come through DSL, using said telephone socket.

Re: T+T Box in an old house and strange cable

Thank you, that's enormously helpful!

Any ideas why the telephone socket would therefore have Cat 6 coming out? I would assume it would have a plug into the socket, rather than be connected behind?

Maybe I need to remove the plate and see what's going back there!

Thanks again!

Is it Cat 6? Or Cat 5? maybe some one just us what is available to extent the phone line. Maybe someone just used the existing conduit to run the network cable through it. Open the plate and you will see.
