I bought a new chainsaw and all the trees around me are getting nervous

I'm eyeing up a tree at the front of the house as a first victim. The tree is OK, I could just leave it there, but it does produce a lot of leaves that I have having to clear up every year. Should I feel guilty about killing a tree because I'm too lazy to pick-up the leaves?

Yes

but if you are going to do it- do it now before birds start nesting. Do you know what you are doing though- how big is the tree

Just check that you are allowed to do that? Some towns frown upon removing trees (no idea how the legislation is here)

You could get a "laubsauger" instead, to suck up the leaves. I bought one last Autumn because it's easier than raking all of them.

A friend cut down a tree in their garden, and was quite in need of psychotherapy following a traumatized squirrel running around for days after

Raking leaves is free exercise (rather than going to a gym).

I know, but then it kills my back for a few days afterward. For whatever reason, if I do anything that requires me to move my back muscles back and forth repeatedly for a while, it really hurts for the next few days.

Re: I bought a new chainsaw and all the trees around me are getting nervous

Don't take trees down just due to having to collect the leaves. They take decades to grow. Unless the tree is causing real safety issues, just let them be.

Feel free to use the chainsaw on mask dodgers though

Unless someone has got something specifically wrong with their back, then using an under-used muscle group (the back muscles or any others) excessively will result in some discomfort for the next few days - that's normal.

This isn't directed at you but just generally.
