I imagine that many people do what we've done in our two house moves within Switzerland, which is to simply take the name plate with you and put it on the new place's mailbox. It would be beyond even most Swiss people's expectations that you order a new set every time you move, surely?
I've tried to do that but every place I lived seemed to have either a different background colour or different dimensions, so now I have a fine collection of name plates at the bottom of one of my boxes of assorted junk. I still hope that maybe in my next place I will be able to re-use one of them.

Maybe that will be the main criterion for selecting my next apartment.

Re: Name on my mailbox removed

the fee for me was 60.- and it came automatic from the landlord. However, he did take more than 6 months to get it done.
In the meanwhile, my name was written with a pen on paper scotch.

In some buildings which are less well-kept, it's just a forest of paper slips stuck behind the transparent plastic.

Tbh I don't care about these aesthetics and would prefer to spare the money. It's just a stupid swiss tradition from a forgotten time when people wouldn't move as much, and I say this as a swiss.

Got mine from here when I got a new, nice mailbox: https://www.briefkastendirekt.ch/d/k...avurschild.htm

I paid around Fr. 25.

Re: Name on my mailbox removed

Mister Mint for 20 CHF, I took a photo of someone else's with a ruler up against it and he made one to look the same and fit.

As for the OP, it's completely possible that someone in the apartment gets a kick out of tearing of your bit of masking tape. If you're genuinely worried, would it be worth getting a PO box which ought to be substantially cheaper than a gold plated name tag?

Don't know what the situation is in Switzerland, but when I was living in Germany I was informed that there is a law requiring every inhabited domicile to have a letter box. And if the ownership of the box might in any way be ambiguous (such as multiple parties sharing a building or entrance) it needs to be labelled. Failure to do so can result in a fine. Whether or not you actually receive any mail in the letterbox doesn't come into it.

Thus technically removing somebody else's name tag is an offence that could get that person into trouble.
