Name on my mailbox removed

I am renting an apartment for already more than a year. As the mailbox does not have my name on it, I attach my name (written on a piece of paper and stick it on my mailbox with adhesive tape). However, I constantly found someone remove my name paper.

I am worried about the failure of delivery of important mails from government or my company. If the postman could not find the mailbox for me, what would he do to my mail? Indeed, I have registered an account in Swiss Post and they know my name, address, email and phone. For a mail failed to deliver to me because the letter box does not show my name, do you think they will check the system and found out my email address or phone?

Re: Name on my mailbox removed

Put your name on the mailbox in the correct manner!

A piece of paper stuck with tape for a year is an eyesore, and against house rules.

Re: Name on my mailbox removed

Thanks for the reminder, however the main question I wanna ask is what happens to the undelivered mails (if any), when the Post Office has all my details and contact?

Re: Name on my mailbox removed

In my experience it gets returned to the sender.

We don't have the rules re. metal name tag, where we live. It can be DIY, but we must include what floor we live on.

They get send back to the sender. As was already said you, get yourself sorted with a proper mailbox tag like everyone else. Neighbors typically tolerate this if you just moved in. A year later probably not so much!

Anybody can stick a temporary name on a mailbox, don't be surprised if the mailman decides not to deliver, especially if has been going on that long....

Re: Name on my mailbox removed

You’d have thought somebody would have had the decency to put a post it note on the letterbox or a note in the box itself explaining the need for an approved nameplate and how to get one rather than just repeatedly removing the paper one.
Normally the landlord or agency will either arrange for the nameplate or tell the tenant has to get one when they move in.

.
But that would be common courtesy and not nearly passive-aggressive enough.

Re: Name on my mailbox removed

Get your name engraved on an adhesive plate (close to the color of the mailbox).
Ask the real estate agency to order a set of name plates for you.

Having the proper type of standardised nameplates is not just a matter of aesthetics. ape. It is also the reason why people here are emphasising getting it right.
It was made perfectly clear exactly WHERE to order our name plate from, so that it would match the rest of the name plates. Well, in the five years since we've moved in, others have moved in/out and their name plates clearly were made elsewhere and do not match.

It doesn't bother me, except for the fact that I went out of my way to get the "proper" name plate, for apparently no reason

I imagine that many people do what we've done in our two house moves within Switzerland, which is to simply take the name plate with you and put it on the new place's mailbox. It would be beyond even most Swiss people's expectations that you order a new set every time you move, surely?

Ace1, oh Ace1, however will you become Swiss, if you don't know that some nameplates are silver-grey to match the aluminium letter-boxes, while others are black?!
TBF neither of the moves was into rental properties, so there was no dealing with jobsworth agency types. The first was to a multi-owner apartment house, and already there was quite a variety of styles, and the second (to our house here in Morgins) would be up to us to specify if we so desired. Only two out of six mailboxes are actually in use anyway...

Re: Name on my mailbox removed

Phew. I am so glad that the name plate police hasn't actually seen our front door with much kid art, strange cartoons, symphonic and rock posters, postcards and other jungle and collages. They would have a heart attack. At all front doors in our building, actually.

In Geneva you don't even need to go through the régie to get the proper plaquette, they're made by entreprise sociale privée. I'm sure in Zurich you can find out who makes them.

It will cost a small fee, probably around Fr. 30 (that's a guess).
The small fee was around Fr. 118 for me as a welcome to Switzerland

OMG. Was it made of gold?

Ours costed 24 CHF and we use it in the third apartment already.

Re: Name on my mailbox removed

I think it was just to prevent people from even thinking about moving out. To be fair it was a plate for the mailbox, one for the bell and something else for my door... which still does not justify it
