Hanging two layers of curtains on a single cutrain-track

In my flat the built-in curtain track in the ceiling has only one track for hanging curtains, however I want to hang curtains in two layers.

Is there an easy solution for making a single (einläufig) curtain-track into a double track (zweiläufig)? Or any other solutions that allow hanging two layers of curtains on a single curtain-track?

If not, would the best approach be installing a curtain rod next to the built-in track?

Maybe get one of them srcew jack curtain rails to place against the walls?
Shouldn't mark it much as long as you don't crank it too much.

EDIT - Something like this

Re: Hanging two layers of curtains on a single cutrain-track

Are you worried about having to restore the space to original condition at some point?

Do you need the two curtains to function separately?

Are you looking to hang sheers behind more substantial curtains?

If so, one easy-peasy solution would be to hang sheers on a spring-loaded rod.

Then hang your more substantial curtains using the track.

---

One downside is that you want to make sure the spring-loaded rod is hidden behind the other curtains, as these are rather ugly when the curtains are opened. (When closed you can't see the rod.)

---

You can buy the bits and bobs to install a second track but be aware that you will need to make holes in the ceiling to mount it. You can find these on amazon, or from Manor once they re-open.

I would hang a pelmet from that little space above the track, to cover both the naked track (heavier curtains) and the tension rod (gardinen). Simples.

Re: Hanging two layers of curtains on a single cutrain-track

If you're just looking for a double thickness then you can get curtain hooks designed to hang one from the other, i.e. one curtain has hooks/loops onto the rail, the other one hooks onto the inside of the first one, just below the top.

If, however, you want them to open separately there are various options available, like this one at IKEA which should be easy enough to adapt onto the current rail mounting.

Re: Hanging two layers of curtains on a single cutrain-track

Buy a three track track (?!), in white to match the surrounding wood.

Using narrow screws, attach over the existing one - carefully drilling through the middle unused track and the existing track. The holes will be at the bottom of the old track so not visible when your addition is removed.

ps- if you really want no holes in the existing track, get some square nuts that fit into it and use that method to mount the new track, similar to many roofbar mounts.

Remove the existing one, buy a double. Either use the same holes or if not possible the original holes will be covered. You can leave it like that when you move out as nobody will remember how it was before and/or it will even be appreciated.

Looking at how it is installed, this would be very difficult.

Re: Hanging two layers of curtains on a single cutrain-track

I agree with meloncollie - it depends on what you want to accomplish. Maybe it's not even necessary?

I have both a room darkening curtain and a sheer curtain on the same track but they are not one in front of the other like layers. They are side-by-side. During the day, the darkening curtain is tied to the right side of the window while the sheer curtain covers the window. At night, the sheer curtain gets tied to the left of the window and the darkening curtain covers. It works brilliantly and didn't require any extra rods or drilling, etc.

Re: Hanging two layers of curtains on a single cutrain-track

3 wishes has a good idea there.
We were really lucky as our apartment was new build and it came with 2 tracks in the ceiling. We have brown coloured electric shutters on the outside of the building that can be adjusted like venetian blinds so I just have nice sheers at the 2 bedroom windows. We are just above ground level with windows on the street side and French doors on the courtyard side of the building. I have nice squared patterned window film on the bottom half for extra privacy (if anyone very tall walks by on the street side you can see the top of their head, quite freaky if you're watching TV).
