I am friends with lots of local farmers.

The guy who married us has 15,000 chickens!

(he was the mayor at the time, takes his daughter to school on his motorcycle, and has a pony-tail)

Tom
Reminds me how on "The Wire" they marked calls "non-pertinent"

It is funny with some far right politicians and pony-tails. Like Freysinger in Valais, and his twin (looks and poneytail) here in my region.

You need some experience to handle 15 000 chicks.

Drove nicely under the speed limit.

We have interesting politicians here too. I love the genuine Swiss political folklore.

Re: Thoughts about Kanton Schwyz

Love Kanton Schwyz. Our nearest town is Sattel. We have worked hard to integrate and have been welcomed.

We're in a rural farming and mountain area, and have definitely had exposure to some "old fashioned" values/thinking, but that could happen anywhere in the world.

Lachen I think is ok for the fog vs sun ratio but you should check this. Brunnen on the other hand is too often under cloud for my liking.

Lachen is really an outlying part of Zurich in my opinion, so you're not exactly remote by any stretch of the imagination with excellent public transport links and shopping and way less snow than in the Alps proper. You might want to consider Pfaffikon for better tax rates. However, Lachen is only a short drive from my beloved Hornbach hardware store!

Thoughts about Canton Schwyz? Well it's only claim to fame is they named a country after it. I was there once, for less than 20 minutes. I only noticed because the sign told me I was leaving Schwyz and arriving in some otherwise unknown place.

Named a country after it? Founded the country may be the more appropriate term.

Re: Thoughts about Kanton Schwyz

I have lived six years in Zurich and four in the HŲfe part of Schwyz. The stereotypes about Schwyz in this thread are exactly what ZŁrchers like to say about them... but in my personal experience is that area of Schwyz both super international as well as very open to foreigners. Yes, itís welcoming but also a little less tolerant towards people who donít play by the rules. I personally liked that. When it comes to xenophobia have I experienced much worse and more confrontational stuff in Zurich than Schwyz. Mostly because the city folks were generally louder about their opinion on everything. The SVP in Schwyz is a farmer party, the SVP Zurich was the one who started the whole anti-immigration stuff...
