Replacing the name on a doorbell?

Hi all,

Quick question. Does anyone know how to replace the name plates on these specific Swiss doorbells:

We bought a new house recently, and I'd like to replace the name here. It appears to be a really strong sticker, so maybe there's a place to order something to cover it up with? Right now I'm just using masking tape.

Holy image size Batman.

If you screw the top cover off, it might have a hole in the back to aid poking the old sticker off. Or try some heat to return the glue to a tacky state.

Heat it with a hair dryer and gently pry it off.

Mr Minit will do something similar, but I don't think the curved sides anymore... you may need to trim it yourself.

top right is not horizontal.

my ocd would be unhappy that they are not vertically aligned to allow for raindrops to fall out.

Your ocd feels hydro-meteorological. Mine would also welcome a different color. That pictogram could be a bit more chic.

I would have thought once the plate is unscrewed you'd be able to remove it from behind. Dunno if this is of any use

If I were a mod posting on this thread I’d resize the ridiculously large image.

Re: Replacing the name on a doorbell?

Ok, that's step 1.

Step 2 is take it to a local keycutting/engraving service and they will very likely provide you with the replacement, including engraving, for a probably quite surprising sum of money.

that said, our local keycutting man was super-helpful in replacing a snapped old wardrobe key for me for the sum of around 12chf.

It's a rounded version of DIN 1451, which is pretty common - I like it.

Re: Replacing the name on a doorbell?

It is our doorbell, but the name is of the family that lived here before we moved in. So I'm not that concerned about privacy. I also used a temporary image hosting site, so the image will come down in 30 days, anyway.

Yeah, sorry about the size. I'm not really sure how to size images on this forum.

As for the name plate itself, it is definitely a sticker on top of the main face plate for the doorbell. I unscrewed everything and there is nothing behind it that I can easily remove. I'll have to try what Spinal recommends and use a heater to see if that will loosen it. Then I'll look into Mr Minit.

Thanks, all.

Re: Replacing the name on a doorbell?

Based on the font/character and the symbol for the bell I am pretty sure that it is an engraved piece of plastic (black background/white face). I would guess if there is no access from behind, they have double back tape on the plastic piece.

See if you can get something thin and smooth (like a small paint scraper) to pry it off on the left side under the plastic (so not trying to take off the white layer but the black underneath).
