Living in Höngg - Zurich

I'm currently living in Winterthur and want to move to Zurich proper. I think I quite like the idea of Höngg as it's close to the Limmat and also Käferberg, while also not being too far from the city. I'm a single guy in his 20s and I quite like a beer or two in the evening, but I would be more likely to spend a weekend hiking/cycling/swimming or whatever, than going to a Langstrasse or a club.

What are the people of this forum's opinion of Höngg as a place to live? I guess it quite quiet, but I think I'd be ok with that, especially since Wipkingen is quite close and that seems quite lively.

Thanks

Why not opt for Wipkingen or Wiedikon. Apart from being close to Käferberg and Limmat (depending which part) Höngg has no semblance of social life for anyone in their 20s, in my opinion. And is too remote from the rest of the city for my taste (I guess Meierhofplatz to HB will easily take more than 20min with öV).

I'm also looking in Wipkingen, but I have seen quite a nice apartment in Höngg that has all of what I'm looking for in an apartment (it's 1 minute walk from Meierhofplatz). So ideally I'd find a similar apartment in Wipkingen, but I'm now just trying to figure out if Höngg would be good enough. The way I see it is - I've seen this apartment that I really like, and if I really want to be in Wipkingen for a walk/coffee whatever, I can be there in 10 minutes, and HB in 19 (according to SBB).

Re: Living in Höngg - Zurich

I used to live in Höngg many years ago. It is very quiet, and it takes a bit of time into the city. I think the fastest was the 46 bus through Wipkingen to HB. There was one place where you could go for beers and some Mexican food, but that was it in terms of "night life". That said, I liked it for its location on the sunny hillside, 5 mins walk to Limmat and Werdinsel, super quick access to the woods. And also quick to motorway for weekend trips to the mountains.
