Problem with sublet

Hi, a friend of mine sublet a room, was asked to leave, which she did, and she had an agreement from the leaseholder that she would have her deposit paid back to her (all save din a WhatsApp chat). This lease holder is now changing her story and does not want to pay back in full. Is it possible for an individual to open a poursuite against another individual, or is this reserved for business entities? If not what is the best procedure?

Yes she can - debt processes apply to any contractual entities, whether they're individuals or companies.

Best procedure would be to send a formal, registered letter demanding the deposit back by date X per the agreement stated in WhatsApp on date X time Y etc etc including a printout, and also stating legal action will be initiated if this doesn't happen.

Either that encourages them to pay up, or puts everything on the right footing to take further steps.

I'd also recommend getting familiar with tenants' association, and you can also get (paid) advice even if you're not a member, they can even write you such letter for a fee.

No clue though if they speak english...
