We might be buying an old house soon, which will likely need some electrical work after inspection. Could anyone chip in re

1) Are you allowed to do the work yourself, or bring certified electricians from abroad? As long as it is done up to scratch, it shouldn't matter who did the wiring, right? If not, what's the legal basis for such limitations?

2) Could someone recommend a good electrician from Zurich area who would be willing to do an inspection before purchase, just to get an estimate for the works needed?

You can do the work, but you will need a Swiss certified electrician to certify the work.

For the legal basis, look up the Niederspannungs-Installationsverordnung, (NIV) / Ordonnance sur les installations à basse tension, OIBT.
