Apartment handover - What do I need to watch out for?

I am leaving my current apartment and the handover will take place in the presence of both the renting agency and the new tenant. Anything to watch out for? any documents that I would need the renting agency to sign before I finally give them the keys?

Any input will be valuable

Read this page on the Mietverband (renter's association) webpage (use a translate program if you need to).

Re: Apartment handover - What do I need to watch out for?

Basically everything. If you have a magnifying glass it helps.

But the most important thing is the original handover document to prove anything which was already imperfect.

Personally I would not allow the new tenant to be there, it's nothing to do with them and feels intrusive to me.

I am also wondering why the new tenant would be there, since they are likely to have questions you either shouldn't be privy to, or that would be tedious for you to endure (and your questions are the same for them, of course). Imagine if there's a dispute about something. It'd be very awkward for either you or the new tenant to witness, if it involves the other party.

Thanks for your replies.
The new tenant will be there because the agency prefers to do both handovers on the same day (me to agency and agency to new tenant).

That makes sense, but why not 1 after the other instead of both together?

Maybe I can ask the agency to have them one after the other, but not sure if they would think that there is something fishy behind my request or what!

Re: Apartment handover - What do I need to watch out for?

It is to your advantage to have it at the same time as one can clarify any contentious issues.
Take photographs of the flat at handover - you are only obligated to hand it back in the condition at handover, with very little allowed for wear and tear unless you stay for ten years or more
