Thanks everyone,

I guess that because of the withholding tax it doesn't really matter where I end up living around Zurich, so it will probably be a matter of finding a decently sized and priced house to start my new life
You keep mentioning a house.
You mean a flat right?

1500 to 2000 CHF will get you a 1 bedroom (maybe 2) flat with a kitchen and living room.

Try homegate.ch or immostreet.ch or immoscout24.ch

Houses are way more expensive.

Schwerzenbach and Greifensee towards Uster are really lovely.
Just a skip and a hop on the SBahn train to the center of Zurich.

Similarities to Switzerland? The only one I can see is high cost of living. Particularly Denmark is the opposite of Switzerland. The dark side.
Sorry for the late reply ... quality of life is equal / sometimes better in my opinion. Why do you think Denmark “is the dark side”? The weather perhaps?

Because I would rather live under a bridge than continue living in the UK.
Making a lot of money does not make up for a place I am not really fond of anymore.
Have you ever spent a decent amount of time in Switzerland? May want to come here for 3 months before you decide if not, as I cant tell you the amount of people here from the UK that say the same thing you are saying above, and cant wait to go back, people from Ireland, Australia, South Africa, all saying similar things. If you want to be somewhere close to Italy just know that Switzerland is polar opposite of Italy, it is absolutely nothing like Italy and I wouldnt say it is that close either, esp. when driving by car its quite the pain in the ass to get anywhere significant. Easier to take a quick flight.

Thanks everyone, I am falling in love with Thalwil, Horgen, and the like of that area near the lake.

But it seems that I have to opt for a much cheaper town that still has connection to Zurich Airport / Center.

Any suggestions? I have seen suggestion of other cantons but would like to remain within Zurich to not deal with multiple immigrations offices
Baden / Wettingen / Wurenlos / Otelfingen / Geroldswil / Regensdorf

All the above have stops along the s6 taking you straight into Oerlikon / Harbrucke / Zurich HB nonstop. We live in Wurenlos and its about 26min to Hardbrucke, 30 min to Zurich HB.

That said they are all pretty boring places, with Baden being the least boring of them all.

Thank you!

I found a temporary flat in Adliswil and I am looking at Thalwil, Horgen, Oberrieden and Adliswil itself.

I have been told to avoid Affoltern, Glattpark and the southern side of Hoggs

If you will like (or at least don't hate) Adliswil, then there is no reason to avoid moving to Affoltern, Glattpark and the southern side of Hoggs(wart?). They are the same thing, just closer to Zürich (and to both shores of lake!).

Hoggs? Do you mean Höngg?
If Höngg, then I always thought the southern side is the better side :-/
