The toilet's still running. I can hear it bubbling as I type this. I hope it's okay to leave it running like that all night. I figured it's already been going like that all day, so it should probably be fine. |

Pancakes it’s OK,
All toilets have an overflow that prevents flooding. As the water rises in the tank it reaches the overflow which directs it to the pan. As you have noticed.
It is a waste of water, but that’s the worst thing. You do need to get it fixed, but you could leave it for some time.

Now this is where you really need to pay attention. Lift the plastic cover plate but be aware, there is an electromagnetic seal all around it and if you touch the sides while lifting it out, it's most likely game over.
Once the cover plate has been set aside, a digital timer mechanism located next to the stopcock will begin. You will only have two minutes to complete the next critical part.
You'll see a blue wire and a red wire. Take a pair of pliers and lift the blue wire clear of the red wire. This is the wire you will need to cut. If you see a green wire hidden underneath, you will instead need to cut the blue wire. If the blue wire is however more of a teal colour, then go with the red wire.
Remember, this works best when the digital timer only has less than three seconds left before detonation.
Afterwards, everything should be back to normal, I concur with others views to clear some of the fluff away before replacing the cover plate and screws.

This needs to be done exclusively with a Swiss Army Knife, preferably the one with 314 blades! You’re risking death, destruction and pestilence if you use a wimpy one you got at the Migros.

I'd much rather read and contribute to a thread about Pancakes toilet than that drivel about deleting my account.

I imagine that she had no intentions to make it come across that way. Difficult disorder to live with but we have to be empathetic to those inflicted with it.

Tom | | | | | There seems to be no danger of that. Now we know who was buying up all the goddam TP in the early days of the pandemic.

I don't want to speculate but could it be that there is a relation between the floodings and Pancake's toilet?

Did you have the slightest intention of fixing the problem when you started it? | | | | | Yes. But my bigger concern when I posted this thread was whether or not it could overflow and if there was anything I might be able to easily do to get the water to stop running. An EF member told me how to get the panel off, and then once I did that, I was hesitant to remove the inner "casing" thing myself once I found out that the Hauswart would be coming today. I didn't want to break anything and make the problem worse.
But thank you for the unnecessarily rude comment. It's the perfect way to start my day. Cheers.

Ha haa. The toilet paper is all mine mine mine!
Thanks again to everyone here for all your help and suggestions. You guys are awesome.
Thankfully, the Hauswart is supposed to be coming at 11:00 today to have a look at it (and hopefully fix it).
Thanks again for all the help here! I'm sorry if I disappointed anyone by not managing to fix it myself. I just really didn't want to break anything by trying to remove that casing. | The following 2 users would like to thank Pancakes for this useful post:

I fully agree. Loads of great info. Yet none of it put to use. | | | | | Read my comment again. I was afraid that the toilet could start overflowing and was hoping there might be something I could easily do myself to fix it. I didn't know what was involved until I finally got that button panel off.
Jesus. I just woke up and now find myself dealing with having to defend myself on the internet for not fixing my own toilet.
There are some truly kind and helpful people on this forum but sometimes I'm not sure if the "random aggressive guy" that somehow always magically appears makes it worth it. I'm not going to waste my day arguing with strangers on the internet.
Thanks again to the people here who have been helpful and / or made me laugh about my silly toilet dilemma. |

Don't worry .. Your toilet brightened up the day for most of us!
We need another photo when it's fixed and we'll be checking if that blue towel has been changed for a fresh one.
Just be careful of reflections in that toilet paper holder.

Ha haa!
So the Hauswart just left and he had removed that casing thing and looked inside but couldn't see any kalk, so he thinks that entire mechanism needs replaced. He's going to have a plumber come to replace it (hopefully next week).
I'm just so glad we have two toilets in our apartment! Otherwise we'd have to poop in the garden! | The following 4 users would like to thank Pancakes for this useful post:
