Student accommodation near ETHZ

Hi, one of my friend's son is arriving in Zurich to do his masters at ETHZ in September and has not been successful in finding an accommodation yet. As I am not familiar with the area, could you give some leads on where he should search...whether there are any other forums that could help etc?
Thank you!!

Re: Student accommodation near ETHZ

The place to find a room in a shared flat is
https://www.wgzimmer.ch/en/wgzimmer/search/mate.html?

Even for such rooms, one has to apply and sound convincing. It is worth reading every word in their ad, and addressing all of it. He should writing something about himself, his interests and focus, what he likes to do besides study, and should sound like a reasonable sort of person, to make the other students even want to meet him, all. It's a little like a informal job application. If he has previous experience sharing accommodation, that's a big plus, and he should say so.

Zurich itself is not a big city, what does the Son of the friend want, a flat in walking distance ?
The ETH is central located not far from the central station, so any flat in zurich will do it.
What is the budget ?

Depends what an where, ETH Hönggerberg is much closer to Affoltern than to the center, but yes, Zurich is not a huge city.

Thanks for the links - that I have forwarded. The info I have is:
