Urgent help needed on payment format for rent

Hello,

I just signed my first lease agreement which is set to start on September 1st. I have now been given a bill to pay the first month of rent, however there's no bank details in the invoice. I assume you take this to your Swiss bank and have them link to the person somehow, without knowing their details?

The issue is that I couldn't open a swiss bank account on such short notice.

Therefore I am wondering how people without Swiss bank accounts pay their rent? I assume this can't be done in cash? Perhaps you could approach the bank account of the immobiliser and try to deposit cash directly there at the bank?

Pardon my ignorance, but how might this work? Thank you for your help!

Welcome to the forum.

Depends on what your invoice looks like. If it's a normal type then it has an orange payment slip on the bottom and you simply take that into a post office or bank and hand it over with the cash.

Welcome, and oh, yes, I understand that something like this can mystify, when one has just arrived in a new country.

This seems very unlikely. Is it possible that the bank details are there, but not in a form that's recognisable by you (since you're new here)?

Yes, this, exactly.

Take cash to the post office and pay it. But best thing to do would be to ask your landlord for their bank details so you can pay via eBanking (also when you have a Swiss account).

Re: Urgent help needed on payment format for rent

What the other people wrote works. If you want to use your own (foreign) bank to pay ask your landlord for their IBAN (all accounts have them) and you'll be able to pay directly.

The payment info you received is likely the orange slip which contains all the info needed for an internal bank transfer in the Swiss system (see p. 9 https://www.kraehenmann.immobilien/w...witzerland.pdf). Be aware though that the slip also includes a reference number for automated payment processing which I'm not sure will work when paying using the IBAN number.

Just to a little beef to this bone:

If it looks like this:
Use it to pay cash for September (after completing any empty parts) and coordinate with the agency/landlord for the following months. Pay cash at the Post office of your choice.

The common thing once you have your bank account is to create a standing order that gets executed monthly, a day or two before the previous month's end. So its first execution may happen September 29 for the October rent.
