So I'm trying to find the best short term solution, until I am a physically in Switzerland to hunt for the best longer term apartment. So I am recognizing that we will probably be paying "AirB&B" sort of prices for a short term apartment until a house can be found - and that beggars can't be choosers. You've reconfirmed this thought I've had.
2. Can you (or anyone) point me towards some less takeover classified sites? Do they exist, or will I have to be there to find a newspaper?
3. Yup that's the UN! We've got some allowance... but have to spend it ourselves! So I'm trying not to mess this up too badly! | | | | | as mentioned, try glocals.com. Your wife will have access to UN classifieds, where many people advertise lease takeover - certainly when they finish their assignments in Geneva. Other than that, I am not sure of any site specifically advertising 'lease takeovers' - actually, these will be the Regies themselves, and then you are on the open market...
But still, if I understand you correctly, you are now not looking for a lease takeover but short term stay - so either sublets again via means I mentioned or AirBNB. And not sure AirBNB will be much more expensive.

| | Re: Advice on Monthly Rental Apartments - Geneva (but also Switzerland in General) | Quote: | | | | | I just want to clarify that we are looking for at a temporary (short term) furnished apartment for the first month (or even two) as we search for a longer term rental (hopefully a house in Vaud). Our end goal, should we like Switzerland (we expect to) and when we know more neighborhoods and locations, would be to buy a house somewhere in a bout two years.
Again, I appreciate the advice being given. | | | | | For short-term rentals, it's generally been France that caters to this. Cheap, convient and more space. You could get small apartment with all the conviencies with flexible rental periods. Now I'm not at all sure how this might be hindered in Covid times but still worth looking into.
If you are looking at a relocation agent per your other posts, they should be able to advise and easily arrange this for you.

A highly service orientated destination service provider in Geneva. As an employer, they take care of 100 relocations a year for me (well until last year).
If not a service offered by your wife’s employer, they also deal directly with expatriates.

I'm just going through the same process and may be a few weeks ahead. I've now been in Geneva for one week and am looking for somewhere more long-term to live.
In terms of short term lets I got recommended www.gerpar.ch by a colleague, they have more properties than listed on their website and can be quite flexible based on anecdotal evidence (3rd hand so worth enquiring further with them if needed). In the end I went with www.homenhancement.ch due to availability, they've been very responsive so far and I've had no issues yet.
Hope this helps.
Dave.

We contacted a few relocation agents, and found one we liked, and bundled it together with a checklist of things that we need (help with the house hunting for the permanent housing, and the Regie at both the temporary and the long term). We've never met in person, but will later this week, and after we handle everything, I'll share the experience. The price, while not cheap, seems fair, again, I'll share after we are successful/unsuccessful with the experience.
