Household Insurance

A tile is cracked and it isn't mentioned in the protocol. I glossed over it when I signed the protocol - previous tenant was a friend and I didn't want to hold up his refund...yes, I know. Silly.

The attitude of the Verwaltung in relation to the bath tub being chipped by the previous tenenent was that it was no problem since it was covered by their insurance.

Tiles crack naturally through wear and tear - and they are 5-10 years old. I think there is a limit to the replacement costs if what is damaged is of a certain age also...

In case they try to hit me up for cash - I have household insurance - will I be covered if this is the case?

Household insurance covers your loss due to theft, etc. You need liability insurance (so-called Haftpflicht) to cover your landlord's claim.

Re: Household Insurance

You don't say where the tile is.
In Mietrecht there is a section about 'normal wear and tear' which specifically mentions 'Spannungsrisse' 'cracks caused by tension'.
Only found it in German - here under Normale Abnützung.
You could sound very knowledgable if you use all the right words!
Good Luck
