Holiday Property rental (Ski) Q's

Hi,

Thinking of renting an apartment or small chalet in the mountains somewhere within around 2 hours drive from Zurich (well Affoltern am Albis actually).

Just wonder if anyone has experience doing this and can share this information.

i.e. recommendations of resorts, methods to find properties etc..

Primary reason is to get our Son on the slopes for the first time (he'll be 4) and want to be able to fall out of bed onto the slopes rather than driving each day.

Flum & Engleberg are very close but probably get too crowded at the weekend. I think these a small resort over the border in Austria, but can't remember the name.

Re: Holiday Property rental (Ski) Q's

Do want the rent a flat for the whole season? Generally holiday flats can be found through the tourist information of any resort - I'd think most people would be happy to rent out their flat for a whole season, but you may be a bit late for that now (depending on resort and flat etc).

Nice small resort I like is Brigels / Breil (bit further than Laax) with not too many black runs, mainly red ones I think. Not sure how long a drive that is as don't own a car.

Definitely not too far away would be Wildhaus (Toggenburg valley, Kanton St. Gallen) and supposedly good for families.

Brigels / Breil is a fantastic resort for a day or a weekend trip..

It may feel a bit small for longer periods..but its definitely a gem in the hiding.

Probably just for a couple of months rather than the whole season (i.e. 20th Dec to ca. 20th Feb).

Did the whole season rental in Chamonix years ago and managed to find a good deal at the last minute (it was actually snowing heavily when we visited the resort although the season had not yet started). Mind you that was when I had a contract that I could take lots of time off with and YF&S.

Rahul - Will check out Brigels.

Has to be good for beginners, but I could not do the whole time without some serious runs or back country to blast and play in.
