Washing machine from the UK

Hi all.

We are finally moving this week and I am wondering if I could take my washing machine, someone has told me that the installation is different in terms of the water pipes, and that it won't fit, is that true? I know i'll have to change the plug and that is not a problem; it is fairly new and we have the place to put it in our place in Zug, but i am worried i'll end up with an appliance that cannot put anywhere.

advice?

Re: Washing machine from the UK

I moved a washing machine from Zurich to Scotland and back again and never had any issue with pipe sizes. You do need to check if you are allowed a washing machine in your apartment if you are renting as it can be forbidden. The other thing is the appliances here normally run on 3 phase electricity so don't hook it up to the wrong place.

What a brilliant reply. It sounds as if you are putting it in your hand luggage.

Re: Washing machine from the UK

hehe thanks

I did "pack" my washing machine, and now that i am in Zug, and in my apartment, I tried to connect the thing, and even though the main bathroom has ,what we were told, the installation ready it has no plug or drain or a tap for the water, only some sealed things, I'll post a picture of it when i get home... dificult to explain whith words... maybe i need to get the local plumber to do it.

Re: Washing machine from the UK

You'll probably need to get the machine installed by a plumber, the landlords usually insist that such work is done by a professional, and you'll need written permission from them to get the work done.
The blanked off tubes etc. are where the machine is plumbed in, this usually involves pulling the electrical cable through from the junction box in a new appartment. Be sure the plumber/electrician adapts your machine to the three-phase system used in Switzerland and note that you're usually only allowed to fit a "cold-fill" machine!
