anyone purchased new furniture in US (C&B, Pottery Barn) and had it shipped here?

I'm considering this option since I've not been able to locate a king size bed. I brought my king size mattress with no bed...now not possible to locate one here in CH...

Anyone ordered from C&B and stores like it and had it shipped here from the manufacturer directly? costs?

Thanks

J

You might find it less expensive/less complicated to have a local furniture maker (Möbelschreiner) make a bed to fit your mattress.

That's what we did - got a lovely one-of-a-kind piece made to our specs, better quality and a bit less expensive than what I found in furniture stores here - and I think we spent less than we would have for a similar piece ordered from the States when you consider shipping costs and duties.

('Course I still have to order sheets from the US... )

Crate & Barrel will deliver anything from the catalog overseas. They have a very organized and efficient department handling these orders. My partner and I were looking for large area rugs (9'x12') for our living room and bedroom. After checking out the local prices of 5-6k for rugs of similar size we decided to give them a go. They were delivered via Fedex Freight within 7 days and after paying shipping, duty, and tax we still saved a bundle. The shipping costs was only $170 (2 years ago) and via Fedex I thought that was quite cheap.

I was told by the international order coordinator that she received a lot of orders from expats in Switzerland and very often they are filling shipping containers with furniture for entire homes. Had I known this before I would have furnished my entire place from C&B since I love their style and quality for the price.

From their website: "If you wish to ship an item outside of the U.S. or Canada, please call us at 630.369.4464, fax us at 630.527.1448, or email us and we will gladly assist you."

Keandro, many thanks for this...will definitely look into this...I just can't find what I like in any of the stores here....most of it reminds me of IKEA from style and quality perspective.....and if you want something nice it will cost dearly.

You could also try to piggyback on someone who is relocating from the US and rent some space in their shipping container. Craig list usually has space advertised.
