Subsidized Housing (Immeuble subventionné)?

Does anybody know what the rules are for Immeuble subventionné - Subsidized building?
Can anybody apply for housing in those buildings?
Is there a maximum income limit? Etc.

Re: Immeuble subventionné?

If I'm understanding what you're asking about - where the government assists in the cost of your rent - it varies from canton to canton. From what I understand, there's often a very long waiting list (several years) to get an apartment.

Immeuble subventionné is housing that is partly paid by the state. It's housing assistance. You can not make a combined household salary of x,000 per month and you must have a dossier with the housing athority stating you are "in need' of such an apartment. Also, if you are one person you can only get a 1 or 2 peice, if you are two people you can only get a 2 or 3 peices, etc. You also must be eligible for these benefits. If you are just moving to CH you are definately not eligible.

hope that makes sense...

Hi

As I am living in one of these flats I thought I'd add to the discussion.

Firstly, you cannot earn over a certain combined salary. The flat I am in - the combined salary for 2 people must not go over 144k CHF

Secondly, on the number of pieces you can get. If there are 2 off you - you cannot go higher than a 4 piece flat i.e 2 bedroom flat.

We live in a 5 piece apartment (3 bedrooms) but that is due to the imminent arrival of Child number 1 anytime in the next 10 days.

I hope this helps - but this is from what I know from Geneva.

I will try and find some links for you later.

Here is the link to the site in Geneva - I don't know if this is where you are moving to (sorry it is all in French)

144K Sfr? but that is already way beyond what a middle class family would earn and you get subsidy?

That is from a combined income

And as wife has given up working due to impending birth - thats why we qualify.

BTW i made a mistake - the 144k is the combine salary for 3 people - it is 121k for 2 people - my bad

Thambo, are you sure about those numbers, half of Geneva could claim a place, based on that...

It depends on the agency you use.

For the place we rent (we got it from Grange et Cie & moved in February) - the barreme d'entre for 2 was 121K but lucky for us the geneve canton counts an unborn baby (as long as the 3 months is passed) as another person, so our barreme d'entre was 144k
