temporary accommodation inbasel

hi, i am moving to Basel with my husband by mid feb and need a temporary place to stay till i find a permanent one. I wanted something like a furnished, self catering apartment, near to public transportation etc. & which is not too expensive..something around 1500 chf per month. I have already looked in craiglist, homegate and immostreet. but haven't found anything within my budget or according to my requirements. Also, I was wondering if there are some village sort of places near basel, where one could stay.. My husband's office is going to be near novartis... any suggestions regarding how to find such type of a place, would be of great help!!!

Re: temporary accommodation inbasel

Try the Apartment House Gundeli-Park. I lived there for a short peroid, and it was fine. You pay by the week, and there are different firnished apartments to choose from. But they are very small you really couldn't fit much of your own stuff in there.

Mine was one bed (which doubled as a couch) + bedding, a coffie table, a chair, a tv, fairly good sized closet, and my own bathroom (with own shower) But obviously they do have rooms with double beds and things like that. But its really not that bad for temporary accomidation.

Although doesn't Novartis provide temporary accomidation for their employies. I know alot of people working for Novartis who had an appartment or even a house provided for them for the first little while. Your husband should ask about that, because if you have to move home to work for them, then it would only be fair.

Re: temporary accommodation inbasel

I stayed at Schützenmatt Apt Hotel http://www.apartments-basel.ch/ when I first came here. Not fancy, and the room I stayed in was kind of a time capsul from the 80's, but it was clean and had the necessary things for a few months. It was arranged by my employer, so I don't know how availability is on a short notice or anything.

I have some colleagues that also stay in a similar set up in Binningen just next to the zoo - but I don't know the name of it, but could check if it is of interest.

But as previous poster said - your husband should check with his employer. If they don't help with the actual arrangement, they most likely have at least a list on where to turn for these kind of things.

Good luck, and I hope you'll enjoy your move to Basel - it is a very nice place to live in.
