Looking for architect in Vaud

Hi,

We're looking to buy a plot of land and build a house somewhere in canton Vaud. Has anyone had any experience of this or could you recommend a good architect in the region?

Thanks for any hints/suggestions on building your own house,

Neonfish

Re: Looking for architect in Vaud

what part of Vaud?
It is a big place and many companies will not travel that far for work as it usually takes a day-to-day one site manager.
I can recommend ours, but are you building near Murten?

Re: Looking for architect in Vaud

Hi - true, Vaud is pretty big. Am living in Morges and looking for an architect in and around the area between Nyon and Vevey and the area stretching up to the foot of the Jura mountains.

By the way, from your own research, do you think it's cheaper to build your own house in Switzerland than to buy an existing one?

Have found this website, which - under the heading of Architekten - lists many architects all over Switzerland: www.baudokumentation.ch
But I don't know how good any of these architects are, so any recommendations for the Vaud (Lake Geneva/foot of the Jura) area would still be appreciated.

Depends on the lot, location, architect and local builders.
Personally if you do not know anyone, it would be much MUCH simpler, faster and cheaper to buy and renovate or expand.
Building or expanding can take from 3 to 12 months to be approved, then 10-20 months for the construction time.
UNLESS
You buy a prefab home and have it erected which then can be done within months, BUT, don't forget EVERYONE shuts down for near 2 months during summer holidays.

Re: Looking for architect in Vaud

Many thanks for your input, though I was surprised to hear that it would be more expensive to build. Was it worth it in the end for you to build in terms of energy, cost and time?

Re: Looking for architect in Vaud

I did it the smart way, after talking to architects, we bought and expanded, the expansion cost us 250,000 and still took 5 months to finish. Well worth it time and money, fewer headaches but still a lot to do from lawyers, banks, contractors, insurances (builders), garbage removals, etc etc...
but very pleased with the outcome.

Thanks. Glad that it worked out well for you! Will be looking at both plots of land and existing houses to renovate over coming weeks.

I would like to recommend:

Architecte - expert immobilier EPFL/SIA/CSEA

We first tried to renovate without using an architect, just because they are so expensive, but it's very difficult to find your way in this jungle of construction companies, and problems are inevitable it seems. We ended up with BIG problems, but Mrs Walther helped us out very professionally.

Re: Looking for architect in Vaud

Hi,

I'd like to recommend:

Rudolf Wegmann
Directeur
Batiline Rue Centrale 26 Case postale 1002 Lausanne
Tél. 021 213 70 65 www.batiline.ch

I've not dealt with Rudolf on a new house construction, but he has been extremely helpful on evaluating the renovation required on some older houses I've looked at - in this respect he comes highly recommended, and also speaks good English and is very approachable.

Patrious
