Re: Conforama reviews

Had two TV's from them and they've both been good and were also at a very reasonable price. Nothing else though, their stuff just doesn't appeal that much.

Re: Conforama reviews

Looks like there's quite a wide range of experiences possible. Mine was mostly bad:
  • an under-desk file cabinet with classy external looks, but the hanging-file rods are too close together, so the hanging file folders have to sit at an angle
  • shoe cabinets that were missing parts and don't close properly when assembled per the instructions, unless wooden parts are modified
  • I ordered one replacement plastic part, giving the item number and the part number from the instructions, and was mailed an electronic gadget instead
  • I also received numerous notices from the sales location telling me something I ordered was ready for pick-up — but I never ordered anything for pick-up, only bought items I could take with me then and there.
I'm glad some other folks had more positive experiences, but based on my own, I won't be going back.

Re: Conforama reviews

We bought a solid wood dinner table which was really exactly what we were looking for. The price was unbeatable and the quality really good. Had to put it together myself but that was expected. Solid quality and suprisingly low price. I would recommend them.

Re: Conforama reviews

I will add my 5 cents

They had a big sale so we bought a microwave there for 50% off. It was a big one in order to fit a baby bottle sterilizer inside.

It was just under 200 chuff half price so it should not have been bad quality.

The thing stopped working after a month, so we took it back and where informed that they would repair it.... And it would take a month or so.

So I less than politely enquired as to exactly HTF I am going to sterilize juniors bottles in the interim.

To which the response was , to buy one of their cheaper microwaves to use while mine was being repaired

Unfortunately it's in their t and c s , and this is how they work, so I don't think there is much I can do.

I have bought some defective stuff from COOP and they didn't even ask for the receipt they just replaced it.

Conforama is cheap because it's sh!t. Be warned, life's old chestnut..... If it's too good to be true......

I dunno, do what mums did before microwaves, and boil some water?

That said, a month to fix a microwave sounds like a long time, and the suggestion to buy another model in the interim is pretty absurd.

Re: Conforama reviews

Conforama furniture is as good as IKEA and it is great if you don't want to spend a lot of money decorating your house. Nowadays they have stuff with some interesting design that doesn't look like trademark IKEA design that you see in every house. IKEA is useful to buy a bed and sofa for the living room because of the large range in options and low prices. For dinning tables and TV stands and especially wardrobes Conforama is a lot cheaper than IKEA and still looks nice.
Have fun shopping.

Re: Conforama reviews

I have a huge conforama sofa but one of the nicer non turkish esque styles thats common there, it arrived was delivered without issue and on time.

There was a problem and it took a month to sort out with quite a lot of emails but the complete sofa was replced.

For the microwave it would be good to know the brand.. it wont be conforama.

For dining tables they cant be beaten, solid oak comes from the UK for the same price as an ikea chipboard faux solid wood table.

One complaint I have is that Conforama tends to advertise items that are not actually in stock, even if you go the day the flyer comes out. You hunt around for half an hour trying to find the item, then ask a sales clerk and they say oh, sorry - it's not in stock. We can order for you, but you have to pay now and it will be here in 4-6 weeks. They're not the only store that uses this tactic to get people in the door. We've encountered it at other places too.
That!
When we first arrived we went looking for the under the mattress rack like things at Conforama, they had lots of them advertised in the showroom, but none of them were in stock. Very frustrating, and we ended up picking them up at IKEA instead. Haven't set foot in a Conforama since. The quality overall looked very cheap. At IKEA you get what you pay for, the cheap stuff is cheap, but the more expensive stuff is good quality. If you want really good quality I recommend Moebel Hubacher in Rothrist, but they are fairly expensive.

Before taking time and going to the shop for a specific item why not check the stock online

This is not a Coop or Conforama thing. The rules are pretty straightforward. If the item is defective on arrival it will be exchanged. If it goes defective in use, it has to be sent to the manufacturer/distributor and they will decide whether to exchange, refund or repair. They have up to 30 days to do this but are usually faster.

In a large pot of water, as I do when canning.

Re: Conforama reviews

Here's my two cents:

-I bought a beautiful L couch from Conforama for a decent price and the quality looks good. The couch looks nice, whereas most L couchs in Ikea looked cheap or were not as comfortable. The customer service in Conforama, however, is horrible. When you're in the store no one helps you unless you chase them down, they're not very friendly either.
A couple of years ago, I bought a chest of drawers from them as well, it completely fell apart after a couple of months!

-I bought the rest of my apt's furniture in Ikea and everyone in there is very helpful. I brought back a couple of things that I didnt want in the end, they refunded my money, no questions asked. One of the wooden chairs I bought had a wrong piece packed, had to take the piece back to Ikea and exchange it there, instead of taking the whole chair. I have to admit though, their wooden chairs are wobbly, it takes a Hulk to tighten them up good so that they dont get loose and wobbly

Re: Conforama reviews

We brought a bedroom unit (02 beds, one closet, one set of drawers) from Conforama. We were told that this is 'swiss quality' and thus better than Ikea. Stuff came apart in 03 months. Called them multiple times. Most of the times they refused to pick up the phone. When we did get to speak with someone, they refused to speak english. At the end of the day, we just disposed off all the furniture. Expensive lesson but well learnt. Avoid them if you can. Waste of money. If I had to, I would buy from IKEA than from Conforama. Never again from them.

Didnt you notice the quality on the display models? Some things sold in conforama are crap some things are very good. The everyday chipboard flat pack items are crap.

Conforama sell some cheap crap, but also sell some decent, solid wood stuff at good prices. The term "Swiss quality" is clearly an oxymoron in this respect, considering all of the stuff is obviously made in China or India etc and then shipped over to Switzerland, and you should really display some common sense there instead of just believing everything you are told.

'Display some common sense' - Interesting choice of words.

Not sure if you read the post in its entirety.

The purchase decision was driven by multiple factors rather than just the 'swiss quality' aspect. And when an organisation talks this factor up, it is fair to assume there is some merit to the claim especially if you are new to the country and to the brand.

In Switzerland there are many unscrupulous salesmen due to a near-complete lack of consumer rights, and it really is a "buyer beware" culture here.

You said: "We were told that this is 'swiss quality' and thus better than Ikea"

Cheap, mass-produced furniture of this nature is obviously not going to be designed or made in Switzerland, so the "Swiss quality" they refer to doesn't exist. You can easily ask where the furniture is produced, and on stores of this level 99% of it will be in China.

Sorry, I didnt use smileys the first time... I wasn't aiming to be offensive (even if it was direct), but there are a lot of misconceptions about Switzerland that people seem to use to really relax their guard around. Its the same as any other place (in fact worse than many in Europe) in that you have to be careful and have your wits about you, because after you give your money there is often very little chance of getting it back. IKEA, in comparison, has excellent customer service. You'll know in future though.
