Recommendation for Architect

Hello

Can anyone recommend and architect that they have used - we live in Kilchberg so they would need to be near there or willing to travel to there (they would need to be aware of what the geminde will and won't allow if they are not from the area)

Also - my german is coming along slowly but I think I would really need someone that speaks english.

Also - if you have any horror stories of what we should avoid them please let me know those as well - I can then try and avoid doing the same!

Thanks in advance!

Sharon

Re: Recommendation for Architect

What kind of job would it be? Commercial or something like a new conservatory on your house?

Re: Recommendation for Architect

You may want to consider a system built house. These are quite popular in Switzerland and represent a considerable saving. The dimensions can be altered to s fit your land and wall, fittings, specs can be changed to your requirements.

We used http://www.pewihaus.ch/ last year and were very happy with them. Based north of Zurich system built.

Or an architect/developers company we used 12 years ago:
http://www.uster-ag.ch Based in Wädenswil. Slow, but methodical.

But all dealings were in German. Frankly you may find an English-speaker at the above or other firms, but all the specifications and quotes will be in German...

Re: Recommendation for Architect

We are an architectural company, I wish we could help you, but unfortunately we are in French speaking part of Switzerland in Lausanne and our German skills are not very strong...

Wishing you the best of luck with your construction!

Re: Recommendation for Architect

you might also want to employ a foreman to handle the build who also speaks English (your architect, when you find him, might want to do this but is unlikely to be the best person).

Most manual labourers will speak German, a dialect or some other language than English. You want to be 100% clear with any message you're getting across to these people...!

Re: Recommendation for Architect

We did something similiar in Wallisellen and used Reto Vollenweider.
We found him very good and the only negative thing about finishing our build/rennovation was not getting to meet him every week!
Very nice man who knows his stuff. He told us more than once to forget something, drop something and came to us with many many ideas.

He spoke quite good english, not fluent but was able to work through english.

Hope that helps and good luck.
marmot.

Re: Recommendation for Architect

You could try Jörg Watter at Oikos in Thalwil if you are interested in a Minergie house:

He speaks excellent English and understands English humour.

Oikos have done conversions and new builds.

Re: Recommendation for Architect

Paolo Fuchs at Archipart speaks English. We used them for a big remodel last year and were happy.
