Is compulsory to buy furniture if I rent a flat???

Dear friends, could someone help me? Sure!

Finally I've founf a flat for rent in Zürich and the lanlord said me she had some furniture to sell by 1500 CHF. Yesterday she said me she had decided to rent me the flat (my friends in Zürich visit her). Other people offered her 1500-2000 CHF for the Livingroom furniture and she said she need 2000 CHF for it. Am I obligated to buy it?

The thing is that there are a beautiful sofa (but I'm not sure to need an expensive sofa like that) but some other things not in my style.

What do you thing?

Of course it is not compulsory, but it could be a deciding factor on whether she chooses to rent the flat out to you or someone else. Zurich is a tough place to find property, so people like her know they can get away with a bit of soft blackmail.

As far as I know you're under no obligation to purchase any furniture left in an apartment from former tenants. If you are interested in the stuff make a low offer and stick to it.

Certainly I haven't had any affer for this, my "friends" talk about furniture two days ago wheb they visit the flat and said me she ask 1500 CHF for. Then I asked the landlord which are included for this price? The subsequent e-mail was in which she said me I was the "winner" of the flat.

I think the correct term for this "blackmail" is "Schlüsselgeld" - literally "Key money". According to another recent thread (can't find it at the moment) it's technically illegal but hard to do anything about.

Re: Is compulsory to buy furniture if I rent a flat???

finally she said me I could rent a 2 room flat by 1100 CHF plus 50 for a parking slot without buying the stuff (it's only for the living) or rent a 3 room flat by 1200 CHF (parking slot also included) but I must buy her furniture (2000 CHF).
Finally I've decided to buy the stuff and rent the flat with 3 rooms (I'll try to sell some furniture before my departure from Switzerland).

For instance, there are a very good sofa and a carpet and..., but some other things are... ugh!
