I second Spiez as well. It is on the Intercity line, so you can be to Thun in less than 10 minutes, Bern in about a half hour and it is a spectacular location right on the lake and sitting below the Niesen. If you are a nature person, or a skier, Zweisimmen is only a half hour away not to mention the proximity to the Jungfrau region. You can't go wrong with Spiez.

Spiez wine is also REALLY good. They give it away free at their big festival in the fall.

Thank you all so much for being so helpful!! I can't wait to start looking for a place to stay! The region looks stunning and great for outdoor activities, I am looking forward to the move!

Moving to Bern in a few months and wanted to re-ask this question with a different perspective:

I'm looking for an area more suited to a 30yo single guy. Connections to public transport are not as important nightlife/bars/restaurants. The one recommendation I've received was for Länggasse. Thoughts?
