Re: oberwil-lieli

The view into the Alps is beautiful. It lies on a hill (less fog) and faces South. Zürich is close. Go and have a look.

Re: oberwil-lieli

I drive under it every day through the new "super-highway" tunnel and it's about two minutes from the motorway - and I was thinking it would be a nice place to move to. The Alps view is wonderful (when the fog clears) but you're usually on top of it (the fog that is). But I imagine not every house in Oberwil-Leili has such a view, so they would be at a premium.

BUT public transport seems limited to the schnellbus 444 between Bahnhof Enge and Bremgarten (wbhich is actually quite handy, but no trains at all) and facilities seem limited to a couple of Volgs and a Heizung-Sanitur place, schools I can't comment on.

And a quick check on www.immopool.ch for houses to buy indicates that they are in the2-4 million range, plus a crappy terrace house that you can see the view when you walk to Volg to get your milk. Looks like the smart money was there first - too late

I only can confirm this! A friend of mine who is a doc already bought his villa back in the 80s for such a price in Lieli. That's the price for a fantastic view, it seems

Lovely views
low tax rate (72%)
rental prices vary a lot
house prices are expensive
not the most convenient place to live if you are relying on public transport

What made you think of moving there?

Re: oberwil-lieli

Many thanks to everyone for the feedback.

Why are we thinking of moving there? Good question! No...we were looking for a house and went to visit and yes both house & area/views are very nice.

We live in Zurich at present and I'm a little concerned that there's not much to do out there (have 2 small boys).

Anyone know how bad traffic is into Zurich around 08:30hrs (via Uetliberg tunnel)? We've visited a couple of times now and (on Sunday) can get to e.g. Sihlcity very quickly.

Re: oberwil-lieli

Just a few notes since we live "next door" in Berikon (a lovely town by the way). I heard from a friend that Lieli doesn't like foreigners and discourages them living there. It is heavily SVP (although Berikon has these types too). Now, on the other hand, I have an English playgroup there (I rent a space) and have met plenty of friendly people. Lieli is a very small town though.

While I do enjoy living in this area (we also have 2 boys), I'm not sure I would move to AG again if I had the chance. The first shock is that you get a tax bill as soon as you register at the gemeinde. ZH pays taxes a year behind, AG pays taxes ahead! Plus you are just that much further from Zurich -- but the freeway connection is wonderful! You are quickly in the city (10 min to Shilcity where they have a drop off play area for your kids).

Feel free to PM me with any other questions.

Good luck with your choice!

Hi, I live in Oberwil. It's hard to find english-speaking people. Do you mind telling me more about your English playgroup? Thanks.

The user Bookworm left Switzerland a few years ago and the website for the playgroup/school is inactive.

Hi Lisa,

the english playgroup is still around, it is called Lieliputs. I can't find a website, but it is easy to find if you go along Bremgartenstrasse direktion Berikon on the left side. Our daughter goes there and loves it. PM me if you would like some more info.

Thanks a lot for your reply. I searched online but found no website of lieliputs. Is there a contact number or e-mail I can write to for more info. ?
