Luker Bros has been a real pain to deal with... My contact, part of the managing family, insulted me and slamed the phone at me, as I was doing my buyer's job of comparing offers and trying to understand how their insurance policy would cover me, in case of breakage. 'I don't want to move you, go and pester someone else!' is the way Luker Bros deal with this kind of simple challenge. What sort of quality of service can you expect from a company acting that way with its customers? My advice: run away from Luker Bros
Thought I would provide some balance on that comment. I just moved with Luker Bros. They were very helpful: I was trying to arrange my move on short notice (more or less 10 days) from the UK to Zurich while living in California. The people on the phone were very friendly, understanding, and ready to cope with the slightly unusual circumstances. They were also relatively cheap. The stuff came on the day promised, undamaged (but they were only moving boxes, no furniture). One thing though, is that it always sounds a bit like a madhouse at the other end of the line, and that they would be disorganized (but that proved a wrong impression).

Just to offer my own experience...

Can anyone kindly recommend a moving company from Singapore to Zurich? If everything goes as planned, we will move to Zurich in August.
Too late for you, but someone else might search later. I recently moved some stuff from Singapore to Basel using K.C.Dat www.asiantigers-singapore.com and they were great.

Thanks for your info.

Have your stuff been delivered to your place in Basel?
If I'm not wrong, K.C. Dat doesn't have a branch in Switzerland, so which partner company of K.C. Dat handle the custom, delivery and unpacking of your stuff in Basel?

Just to share our own experience so far.
We asked quotation from 3 companies: Crown Relocations, Helu-Trans and Raffles Movers. We decided to use Crown at the end because their feedbacks are good and they have office in Zurich. Their quotation (incl. shipment, full coverage insurance, storage) is quite expensive though but it is still within company's relocation budget.

They have packed our things back in Singapore and they were great. Efficient, fast and very professional.

First shipment (few boxes of books and documents) had been delivered to my wife's office in good order.

Second shipment (big furnitures, electronics, household stuff, etc about 600 cbft / 17 cbm) is on their way and expected to arrive in Zurich end of next month. We can give an update once it has been delivered.

When I moved to Switzerland four years ago, my company wanted me to move with Luker Bros. I had such a hard time dealing with them on the phone that I told my company there was no way that I was moving with Luker Bros. My company took the Luker Bros quote, gave me the cash and I moved with Interdean.

I love Interdean. They moved my family around the world when I was growing up. This time around, I only moved from Holland to Geneva and they were fantastic. They even took care of my houseplants (they arrived looking better than when I left them!). If I ever move again, I will use Interdean.

Hi Just noticed your comment. We are moving from Amsterdam to Zurich, would you reccoment Interdean for this move ? thanks

Re: Good removal company

Has anyone had problems with Robinsons removals? They just turned up at my place without phoning to confirm the delivery was on schedule - I was at work!

Now they're saying that an email was enogh confirmation & charging me £110 +vat for re-delivery, which seems unfair to me.

Re: Good removal/moving company

Looked at a few options and PackImpex looked quite professional, but the price was pretty high 5600CHFs!

I asked around and brother-in-law offered to do move for me for 3500CHFs. We get on and trust him to do it since he's helped other family members to move stuff around.

All the other moves, however, have all been EU to EU so wondering if there are any pitfalls to watch out for if I go down this route? (Move is from London to Schaffhausen, BTW).

Re: Good removal company

If you knew they were coming , and they sent you a mail, why should nt they charge you . They have to return with a guy and the vehilce so they have costs. allthough 110 seems a little excessive. Is this in Switzerland ?

Re: Good removal/moving company

Hi all ,

Also been looking at movers, from London to Zurich. We don't have a mountain of stuff to move, just a bed, a table, 5 chairs, about 6 boxes and 2 bikes.

We've just gotten a quote from "WithExpress-International", a German firm based in Baden, and they reckon €685 for the lot (and can also do storage at €35 / month). Seems pretty reasonable to us, and just wondering if anyone's had a good/bad experience with them?

Thanks!
James

Re: Good removal/moving company

I used a company called Atlantic and they were OK but took 5 weeks to get my boxes from the UK. I am now looking at getting some Next furniture delivered. This choosing a removal company is a minefield. There doesn't appear to be one company who doesn't get worrying views somewhere along the line. I have found a good quote called removal group.com. They are competitive. Has anyone used them?

Re: Good removal/moving company

Just used Welti-Furrer to handle the move from Zurich to Budapest. They were excellent. Very fast, packed everything ready to move in one day (4 person family house with loads of stuff), everything very well packed, noe breakages, very well organised and nice and easy to deal with. Not the world's cheapest but you get what you pay for, I would recommend them without any hesitation.

Re: Good removal/moving company

Hi,

We will be moving from Basel to Ireland this year - a houseful of furniture, books, household goods belonging to 4 people. I don't have any idea as to approximate cost.

I have read the posts on this forum and was wondering if anyone out there has recent experience of a good company and any idea of possible costs.
Would it be cheaper to get a firm from Ireland rather than use one here?

Kidja

Any advice would be much appreciated

Re: Good removal/moving company

We are also looking into prices for removals to Northern Ireland this Summer. I would expect the prices in Ireland for a removal company to be quite high but would the cost be higher for a Swiss company? Don't know the answer to that question and I guess you need to phone around to get some quotes/ideas of prices.

Have you thought of using a Northern Ireland/Belfast based International removal company? Might be cheaper as the Euro prices in Southern Ireland atm seem to be very high.

I have just had very good experience with this company moving an apartment- load of stuff from central London to Zürich after I saw it recommended on another Zürich discussion group.

Very good value, they picked up and delivered when they said they would and breakages were minimal.
No links with this company other than being a satisfied customer.

Re: Good removal/moving company

I'd recommend France Removals - used them recently for moving from UK to Switzerland, and were fairly cheap and gave good service.

We also moved with Luker Bros recently. France removals looked good and cheap, but they did not have a truck going at the right time.

Luker Bros go every week, so we went with them. They were about 25% more expensive, but I think this depends on each trip and the schedule perhaps. We did all the packing ourselves, apart from the sofa and dining table, which they wrapped well in blankets. The two removal guys were friendly and very efficient, and were the same in the UK and CH (this is not always the case though they said).
I did see that the roof of the truck looked repaired, maybe that is where the wet boxes experience from the other forum member came from. (But it looks fine now).

Overall, we were satisfied with the experience.

Tip: for any removal company, if you want the insurance to be separate (which makes sense I think, as you do not have competing interests!), you can sign up with these guys: Letton Percival Co Ltd, they do marine insurance (check google for their web site)/. I found this a comforting thought (regardless of which removalist you use!).

Re: Good removal/moving company

I used Abels, and they have been good so far - although still have to receive the final few deliverables so will reserve final judgement. Only problem was an unexpected increase in their fees by GBP300 for reasons I'm still trying to understanding, but have not had the time to question in detail - so make sure you read the small print !

Re: Good removal/moving company

A quick question: we're moving from Zurich to Umbria, Italy. I've emailed a couple of local companies but any recommendations would be useful.

On a related subject; we've moved loads of times and always had insurance. But do you reckon it's worth it? It's a pain in the bum to sort out and it always seems to me that they never pay up. Aside from the entire load getting lost, it seems pointless for breakages. What do people think?

Just to add to the debate, we moved here from Greece; the Greek end was appalling (Beinoglou - ripoff, lost items, unhelpful, etc) but Packimpex were the Swiss end and were impeccable. I told Packimpex never to use Beinoglou again and they seemed very sympathetic with my problems with them; whether they still use them in Greece I don't know, but anyway, that's another story.

Also, quick recommendation, from the UK we've used Abels who were faultless and we'd use them again at the drop of a hat; Pickfords were useless in admin so we didn't bother with them.
