Removing rust from cooker hobs

Hi,

We are about to move out of our apartment and need to sort out a few things...

One is the cooker, it's old and the electric hobs have some rust on them that wasnt there before. It seems like the rust has eaten away some of the hob

I am wondering if anyone has any solutions to removing the rust, obviously i cannot fix the parts that have been eaten away.

Cheers
