Quality bed shopping near Basel

We are trying to find something besides the foam matress systems seen in Basel furniture stores. I have heard that Mulhouse and France, in general, has inner spring and other quality mattress systems. Any guidance or experiences of best places to shop around Basel for quality bed systems and other furniture stores for that matter?

I know Wiki is not always held up to be such a reliable source as it can be edited by all and sundry apparently...

BUT

This page about mattress sizes may prove helpful in your search.

(I really miss my pillow top Queen inner-spring mattress and box-spring )

Thanks all for the references for shopping in France. I guess I should also consider furniture stores in Germany as it is so close to Basel. Let the homework continue!!!

We bought ours from Megamobel in Binzen, Germany (10 mins from Basel). They have a decent selection of mattresses, slats, beds as well as general furniture and it must be cheap because the car park is always full of Frenchies Don't forget to get your VAT form from the store since you can claw back the full 19% sales tax.

Re: Quality bed shopping near Basel

Another couple places to consider...

Möbel Brotz in Murg
www.brotz.de

We are about to order our Ruf Bed from them. Decent selection of various bed systems and mattresses and prices are very competitive (lowest after 3 separate quotes)

I also miss my old Cal King-sized BeautyRest back in the US a lot. But have managed to find something here that's compatible. One thing we are doing is to buy an extra mattress topper on top of the regular firm mattress - it helps!

Schweigert in Mauburg (I think this one is fairly close to Basel)
http://www.schweigert.de/Intro

Impressive selection of all range of furniture (and beds - both foam and inner-spring systems) (from designer series to budget-oriented)

Re: Quality bed shopping near Basel

Reviving this thread from the depths of the forgotten...

We're looking for a new bed & frame, hopefully close to Basel or with (reasonable) delivery. Ideal size is 140 x 200, which seems to be hard to find.

List of priorities:
- quality firm mattress
- headboard is less than 100cm high
- has under bed storage
- prefer no footboard, but this is pretty low on the list

I've found this bed at IKEA, but I question the quality (only 259 chf for the full set up??? )

Anyway, we'd like to go do some stores and do some touch/sit research - which ones do you recommend?

Re: Quality bed shopping near Basel

If you want a quality frim mattress, you need to pay way more then the 259 sfr for the whole setup.
I recommend a "Taschenfederkernmatatraze", the cheapest in the size 160x200
cm will be around 279 sfr, the expensivest from ikea will be around 699 sfr.
You will need a " 2 Federholzrahmen to divide the weight of the mattress and the people sleeping on it (one from 40-150 sfr a piece ).

The bed itself ; there are too many options:

Obviously

I was hoping for store names of places that specialized in mattresses and beds. Ikea was mentioned only because I was just there yesterday...

We're not afraid of putting out some francs for the mattress. We spend time on it; we want it to be comfortable

We tend to furniture shop at Wohnpark in Binzen. Nice sales people who talk some English. Saturdays can be busy, so you might need to look in the weekdays and could always make an appt for a Saturday to seal the deal.

I bought 2 foam mattresses as seen off the shop floor to get ASAP. Comfy as anything. I also bought a Joop for the main bed, which takes a couple months to deliver. It was the firmest choice, but still a small slice of heaven. Although, yes, foam is warmer, that is the main choice in this neck of woods. Also with the slitted frame underneath. I must also say that an adjustable slitted frame is pretty cool, too.

Have fun!

You quoted the wrong person, but thanks for the answer! Wohnpark looks like the type of store that we're looking for. Thanks!
